Pre-match view

Context last updated 27 Sep 2026, 23:25 · Europe/Bucharest

Antonia Ruzic is ranked 68 places higher, but she has lost all six opening sets in her recent hard-court run; 18-year-old Vendula Valdmannova is 6-4 on hard in ten matches.

Valdmannova is the slight favourite. Of the reviewed prices, 1.8 for Valdmannova in the first set is about fair, while 1.8 on her to win the match, 2.0 on Ruzic to win the match and 1.9 on her to take the first set ask more than the form supports — no worthwhile price.

Context

A first main-draw win at WTA level at 18 is direct evidence that Valdmannova can win at the tier she is entering here, and she did it on hard courts against Laura Pigossi with a Brazilian crowd behind her opponent. Recovering from a set down to concede only two games over the last two sets is the part that travels best to this fixture. The immediate counterweight is that she was then beaten 6-3 6-0 by Anna Blinkova in the round of 16, so a higher-ranked opponent has already produced a one-sided loss for her on this surface.
- Valdmannova came from a set down to beat Laura Pigossi 2-6 6-1 6-1 .
- It was her first main-draw win at WTA level, at the age of 18.
- She lost 6-3 6-0 to Anna Blinkova in the next round .

These six matches are the most recent hard-court evidence in the brief, and they show a consistent pattern of slow starts rather than a single bad day: five ended 0-2 and the one win needed three sets. An opening-set average of 3.7 games to 6.3 means she was usually chasing the match before it settled. The sample is small and small samples swing, so it is a caution about her first sets rather than a settled verdict on the match.
- Six completed hard-court matches tracked from 20 July to 31 August 2026.
- First sets: 0 wins, 6 losses, averaging 3.7 games won to 6.3 lost.
- Second sets: 1 win, 5 losses; five matches ended 0-2 and one ended 2-1.
Ruzic is the highest-ranked entrant and the top seed, so the draw positions her as the favourite in the opening round. The ranking separation from Valdmannova, No. 79 against No. 147, is the clearest pre-match divider and sets the baseline expectation for the match. A seeding at a 125-level event brings no protection in a first round, and Ruzic arrives on a four-match losing run in her recorded matches. The ranking gap is therefore the firm basis for favouring her, with her recent results the main reason to treat that gap cautiously.
- Ruzic is listed as the top seed in the Adana Open women's singles draw.
- The first-round match against Valdmannova is scheduled for 28 September 2026 at 08:30 UTC.

Valdmannová's ranking reached a career-high No. 147 in the week of, up from No. 182 in early August. A place inside the top 150 determines her entry position at 125-level events and how often she must come through qualifying, which is the practical value of the rise. Against the top seed she remains the lower-ranked player, so the new mark describes her current level rather than a match-specific advantage.
- Valdmannová was listed at No. 147 in the ranking week of .
- Her previous career-high ranking was No. 182, reached on 3 August 2026.
