Context last updated 23 Sep 2026, 16:05 · Europe/Bucharest

A No. 786 teenager who just beat the top seed meets a home veteran who needed three sets to survive the first round.

Dilek looks the stronger player and the likelier winner, but 1.5 for her to take the match is shorter than the evidence justifies. The best of the quoted prices is Buyukakcay with a four-and-a-half-game head start at 1.6; three sets at 2.4 is a smaller second.

Context

The win is the strongest result of Dilek's season and arrives after a two-month gap in competition: her previous match was a July loss to Weronika Falkowska at the Istanbul WTA 125, so the step from a season of lower-tier hard-court events and a ranking of No. 786 to a straight-set win over the top seed at a WTA 125 is a real change in her level this week. For this fixture it means Buyukakcay meets an opponent whose current form cannot be read from her ranking, because that ranking predates the upset. The limitation is that one first-round win over a No. 91 seed does not establish a repeatable standard, and Dilek has not yet been tested over three sets at this level.
- Dilek beat top seed Solana Sierra 6-3 6-3 in the Ankara WTA 125 first round
- Sierra was the draw's No. 1 seed and is ranked No. 91
- Dilek entered the main draw on a tournament invitation
- No match played between July 2026 and the Ankara first round
ConfirmedSources checked 23 Sep 2026, 16:02 · Europe/Bucharest
Dilek's fast starts on hard have been the foundation of a 12-3 run on the surface.
Dilek has taken 13 of 15 opening sets on hard and closed 10 matches in two sets, so Buyukakcay's task is to keep the opener close rather than chase it. Both of Dilek's listed defeats in this window came after she had won the first set, the clearest sign the pattern can turn.
- Dilek has won 13 of 15 first sets across 15 hard-court matches tracked from 31 May to 22 September 2026
- Her first sets on the surface average 5.6 games to 3.1, within an 8.7-game opening set
- Ten of her 15 hard-court matches finished 2-0, with an average of 2.27 sets per match
- Only two of the 15 matches featured a tiebreak, and none came in a first set
Dilek's serve is a weapon once the first ball lands and a risk when it does not.
Dilek wins 68.4% of first-serve points on hard, well clear of Buyukakcay's 54.6% across her last 15 matches, and the 86 double faults in 14 matches hand over free points without Buyukakcay having to earn them. If Buyukakcay simply gets second serves back in play, that serving gap narrows quickly.
- Dilek wins 68.4% of first-serve points on hard, 357 of 522 across 14 matches with serve data
- She has served 86 double faults in those 14 matches, an average of 6.1 per match
- Her first serve has landed 60% of the time (522 of 870)
- Her hard-court matches average 94 minutes across 14 matches
Buyukakcay's hard-court matches have stretched past 21 games on average, and none of her six has gone to a tiebreak.
Six matches is a small sample, but the shape is consistent: only one of Buyukakcay's four wins came in two sets and she is 2-4 in second sets on the surface. Dilek's own tendency to finish in two sets cuts the other way, so the early games matter.
- Buyukakcay's six hard-court matches tracked since 5 July 2026 average 21.5 games and 2.5 sets
- Three of her four hard-court wins came in three sets; the scorelines are three 2-1 wins, one 2-0 win and two 0-2 defeats
- She is 2-4 in second sets on the surface
- None of the six matches produced a tiebreak
