Benjamin Hassan #51411 – 2Pol Martin Tiffon #209Spain2

The immediate anchor is Hassan's two matches across the 16-17 September Davis Cup tie in Monastir. That gives him a competitive week immediately before the Plovdiv start, rather than a standard uninterrupted break. The cross-border turnaround is specific to his schedule in this fixture. Both matches were completed, so this is workload context rather than a confirmed fitness concern.

Hassan has been the steadier player after the opening set, even while starting sets at roughly a break-even rate, 5-3 in first sets across the same eight matches.

The second set is the part of Hassan's clay record that has held up best in this window, and it is the set where he is most likely to stay with a higher-ranked opponent. The sample is only eight completed matches and four retired matches are excluded from it, so this is a small base rather than a settled pattern. Tiffon has won seven of his eleven second sets on clay between 11 May and 7 September, so the edge here is narrow rather than one-sided.

Tiffon's clay results swing between clean wins and long losses, with only one of his eleven matches in this window finishing 2-1 in his favour.

Five of Tiffon's six clay wins in this window came without dropping a set, which is the shape behind any expectation of a quick win against a lower-ranked opponent. Four of his losses still went the full three sets, and his average clay match lasted 2.45 sets and 23.09 games, so he has been drawn deep often enough that a short match is not the safe read. One retired match is excluded from the 11-match sample.

The match provides a recent Plovdiv-specific anchor rather than a generic result. It shows that Tiffon has already competed in the city during this month, adding local-event continuity ahead of this first round. The loss came 19 days before this fixture and does not establish a current availability problem.
