Pre-match view

Context last updated 20 Sep 2026, 11:56 · Europe/Bucharest

Martineau is a slim favorite over Bouchelaghem on ranking and opposition quality, though no H2H and Bouchelaghem's ITF-inflated form keep the match close.

Serve and double-fault numbers point to over 7.5 aces, over 4.5 double faults, tiebreak yes and set 1 over 9.5 games. Avoid short prices on Bouchelaghem +3.5 and under 2.5 sets.

Context

Bouchelaghem, 490 in the world, has spent 2026 almost entirely on hard courts, going 32-15. Martineau, a 281-ranked Frenchman with a one-handed backhand, has split his recent weeks between clay and indoor hard.
Bouchelaghem's 10-5 last-15 record is the stronger of the two, while Martineau sits at 6-15 over the same 15 matches. The counterweight is opponent level: most of Bouchelaghem's wins came against unranked or 800-plus players on the ITF circuit, but Martineau's recent losses also include 830-ranked Brouwer and 896-ranked Dahlin, so the 281-versus-490 ranking gap does not clearly separate them here.
- Bouchelaghem is 10-5 in his last 15 matches, all tracked on hard, winning 66.7% of sets and 57.5% of games.
- Martineau is 6-15 over the same 15 matches, with 42.9% of sets and 47.9% of games won.
- Five of Bouchelaghem's recent wins came on consecutive days (September 9-13) against opponents ranked 848, 853 or unranked.
- Martineau's recent defeats include players ranked 830 (Brouwer, September 7) and 896 (Dahlin, July 28).
Both men land around 70% of first serves and win about 70% of those points, so the first serve does not separate them. Martineau, 281, is the higher-ranked player; Bouchelaghem, 490, has built his 2026 record on the hard-court ITF circuit.
The separation sits behind the first serve and on return: Martineau has won 44.3% of second-serve points in his last 15 matches with 3.8 double faults per match, against 53.9% and 1.9 for Bouchelaghem. Bouchelaghem also leads on return points won (44% to 34.8%) and break points converted (47.2% to 37.3%), though those return numbers were built against lower-ranked opponents.
- Martineau: 70.7% first serves in and 70.1% of first-serve points won across 15 tracked matches, but only 44.3% of second-serve points won and 3.8 double faults per match.
- Bouchelaghem: 69.3% first serves in, 69.4% of first-serve points won, 53.9% of second-serve points won and 1.9 double faults per match, also across 15 tracked matches.
- Return points won: Bouchelaghem 44% (990 points tracked) against Martineau 34.8% (1,057 points tracked).
- Break points converted: Bouchelaghem 51 of 108 (47.2%), Martineau 31 of 83 (37.3%).
Bouchelaghem, ranked 490, has played 47 hard-court matches in 2026 and gone 32-15; his whole last-15 window is on hard. Martineau, 281, has a comparable hard window (5-4) but has mixed in four clay matches, all lost.
Bouchelaghem played 11 matches between September 2 and September 16, including five in five days at one event, then lost 6-3 6-3 to Benjamin Willwerth on September 16. Four days off before this qualifying match eases the immediate load, but the accumulated hard-court volume is the heaviest workload cue in the matchup.
- Recent schedule: matches on September 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 16.
- He won five straight matches from September 9-13, all in straight sets, dropping only one set in that run.
- 2026 hard-court record 32-15, across 47 hard matches, and all 15 matches in his recent window were played on hard.
- Average duration of 108.2 minutes across his last 15 tracked matches.
This is a qualifying first-round match at the Saint-Tropez Open, played on hard court. That sets the reference conditions for both men: serve numbers, recent results and workload should be read against hard-court tennis, with no surface switch to adjust to.
- The match is listed in the Saint-Tropez Open qualifying first round, and the event surface is hard.

The read
Quality-of-opposition and level edge (rank 281 vs 490, opponent strength trend) outweighs Bouchelaghem's better raw recent stats, which are inflated by ITF competition.
- Ranking 281 (Martineau) vs 490 (Bouchelaghem); Martineau is a Challenger-level regular while Bouchelaghem's 2026 Hard mark of 32-15 is largely compiled at ITF level.
- Bouchelaghem last-15 record 10-5 (66.7%) but his recent defeats came to ranked opposition: Dougaz (419), Vandecasteele (468), Duncan Chan (487).
- Martineau last-15 record 6-9 (40%) with a 5-4 Hard subset; he has been losing tight matches to Challenger-level fields.
- Bouchelaghem's most recent match (16 Sep 2026) was a 6-3 6-3 loss to unranked Benjamin Willwerth.

The read
With an even-profile matchup and no dominant recent margins for either player, the underdog should stay within a 3.5-game cushion.
- There is no H2H (0 meetings) and only a modest ranking gap (281 vs 490), implying a close, small-margin match.
- Bouchelaghem last-15 games won 57.5% (169/294) and total points won 53.9%, showing he rarely gets blown out when on form.
- Martineau last-15 total points won just 49.1% (1067/2174), suggesting he seldom wins by a wide margin.

- Bouchelaghem recent opening sets include 7-6(3) vs Roan Jones (5 Sep 2026) and 6-4 vs Hugo Car (4 Sep 2026).
- Both players post high first-serve-in rates on Hard (Martineau 71.3%, Bouchelaghem 69.3% in last 15), producing tight opening sets.

The read
Martineau's long, gritty Challenger matches and the competitive nature of a qualifier between similar-level players push the game count toward the 22+ range.
- Martineau last-15 games won 47.9% (167/349) = ~23.3 games per match, with an average duration of 104.5 minutes.
- 5 of Martineau's last 15 matches went to a deciding set (e.g. 6-2 3-6 7-6, 4-6 6-3 6-2).
- Bouchelaghem last-15 games ~19.6 per match, but several quick wins vs unranked ITF foes; against ranked rivals his matches stretched (31 and 28 games).

Aggregated recent three-set rates (~27%) keep straight-set finishes most likely, though the qualifier's competitiveness caps confidence.
- Martineau last-15: 5 of 15 matches (33%) reached a deciding set; Bouchelaghem: 3 of 15 (20%).
- Bouchelaghem's recent straight-set margins (6-3 6-1, 6-2 6-2, 6-1 6-2) show he closes out weaker opposition without a third set.
- Martineau's last-15 sets profile (15-35, i.e. 35 sets in 15 matches) confirms straight-set results remain the modal outcome.

Marginal ranking/level edge carried into a first set where the modest favorite Martineau should hold serve and close late.
- Martineau's last-15 first sets were repeatedly 6-4/7-6 (9 of 15 reached 10+ games), indicating slow starts and close opening sets.
- Bouchelaghem has lost his opening set in 3 of his last 5 defeats, including 3-6 vs Willwerth (16 Sep 2026) and 3-6 vs Dougaz (6 Sep 2026).

Same level/opposition reasoning as the match winner; if the opening set is split, Martineau's sturdier hold profile still edges the second.
- Martineau last-15 sets won 42.9% (15/35) across 5 three-setters, showing he stays competitive deep into matches.
- Bouchelaghem last-15 sets won 66.7% (22/33) but 3-set exposure limited to 3 matches, all against weaker fields.
- Martineau last-15 break-points saved 63.7% (72/113) provides a degree of hold security.
