Pre-match view

Context last updated 13 Sep 2026, 03:47 · Europe/Bucharest

Strombachs is the better player on paper with a higher ranking and stronger career record, but his recent clay form is poor.

Tsitsipas has a small positive clay sample and tends to play longer matches, making over 21.5 total games and over 8.5 double faults attractive. The moneyline on Strombachs at 1.22 offers no value.

Context

Strombachs, ranked 415, has a career win rate of 62% but only 40% on clay in his last 15 matches. Tsitsipas, ranked 887, has a career win rate of 38% but won two of his last three clay matches.
Strombachs' recent clay form is poor, with losses to players ranked outside the top 500. Tsitsipas' clay wins came against unranked opponents, so the sample is limited. This surface contrast could narrow the ranking gap, but Tsitsipas' overall level remains lower.
- Strombachs' last 15 clay matches: 4-6 record, 42.9% sets won, 44.6% games won.
- Tsitsipas' last 3 clay matches: 2-1 record, including wins over Jonas Gundacker and Matyas Kozlovsky.
- Strombachs lost his most recent clay match 6-2 6-3 to Andrew Paulson (ranked 606).
Strombachs has a strong hard-court record in 2026 (28-11) and won five straight hard-court matches in August.
On clay, his first-serve percentage falls to 59.8% and return points won to 35.9%, compared to 68.7% and 44.2% on hard. His double faults also rise to 4.8 per match on clay. This suggests his game is less effective on the slower surface.
- Strombachs' last 5 hard-court matches: 5-0 record, 100% sets won.
- On clay in last 15: first serve in 59.8%, return points won 35.9%, double faults per match 4.8.
- On hard in last 15: first serve in 68.7%, return points won 44.2%, double faults per match 2.2.
Tsitsipas, ranked 887, has a career first-serve percentage of 57% and averages 5 double faults per match in his last 15 matches.
On clay, his first-serve percentage drops to 55.7% and double faults rise to 6 per match. His break-point conversion is only 25.9% on clay. This could allow Strombachs to pressure his serve, but Tsitsipas' break-point save rate is 70.8%, so he may escape trouble.
- Tsitsipas' last 3 clay matches: first serve in 55.7%, double faults per match 6.0.
- Tsitsipas' clay break-point conversion: 25.9% (7/27).
- Tsitsipas' clay break-point save rate: 70.8% (17/24).
This is an opening qualifying-round match, and Tsitsipas enters through a qualifying wildcard. The draw pairing is confirmed, but it does not add a new performance signal beyond the surface and form data already covered.
- The qualifying draw pairs Strombachs with WC Tsitsipas in Q1.
- Szczecin qualifying is scheduled for 13-14 September, ahead of the 14-20 September main draw.
