Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 7 Sep 2026, 03:41 · Europe/Bucharest

Mark Lajal is a heavy favorite due to his superior hard-court form, ranking, and serve, while Lenny Couturier's recent results are all on clay.

Lajal's straight-set dominance and strong game margin make him a solid play on the -3.5 game handicap and under 21.5 total games. Avoid backing Couturier at long odds, as his clay-only form is misleading on this surface.

Context

Lajal, ranked 152, is a right-hander with a two-handed backhand and has built his career on hard courts, winning 126 matches on the surface. Couturier, unranked, has played mostly clay in recent months and has only 3 hard-court wins in 2026.
Lajal's recent hard-court form is strong, with wins over players ranked inside the top 150 and a 73.3% win rate in his last 15 matches. Couturier's last 15 matches are all on clay, and his hard-court record this year is 3-4, suggesting a significant surface adjustment. This gives Lajal a clear edge in comfort and recent results on the match surface.
- Lajal's last 15 matches are all on hard courts, with an 11-4 record.
- Couturier's last 15 matches are all on clay, with an 8-7 record.
- Couturier's 2026 hard-court record is 3-4, while Lajal's is 23-11.
Lajal's recent stats show a first-serve points won rate of 73.9% and a return points won rate of 43.3%, both strong for Challenger level. Couturier's first-serve points won is 62.8% and return points won is 40.7%.
Lajal's serve is a bigger weapon, averaging 6.9 aces per match compared to Couturier's 1.5, and he wins more points behind his first serve. Couturier's lower first-serve win rate and return numbers suggest he may struggle to hold serve and break Lajal, giving Lajal a structural advantage in the match.
- Lajal's first-serve points won: 73.9% vs Couturier's 62.8%.
- Lajal's return points won: 43.3% vs Couturier's 40.7%.
- Lajal averages 6.9 aces per match; Couturier averages 1.5.

Markets to Avoid

High-risk markets where price or context leaves too little cushion.

Couturier's recent form is entirely on clay and he has no hard-court wins in his last 15 matches, making the long odds misleading.
