Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 7 Sep 2026, 03:51 · Europe/Bucharest

Ferro's elite clay form and return game make her a strong favorite, but the 1.25 odds offer no value.

Barthel's double-fault issues and low first-serve percentage point to a straight-set Ferro win, with value in Ferro -3.5 games, over 10.5 double faults, and under 5.5 aces.

Context

Ferro, 29, is a clay-court specialist with a career 235 clay wins and a 2026 clay record of 22-9. Barthel, 36, has a more balanced surface profile but has struggled on clay this season at 6-7.
Ferro's recent clay dominance includes wins over players ranked inside the top 150, while Barthel's clay wins have come mostly against lower-ranked opponents. This surface gap should give Ferro a clear edge in baseline rallies and consistency.
- Ferro's last 15 clay matches: 12-2 record, 81.3% sets won, 62% games won.
- Barthel's last 9 clay matches: 5-4 record, 45.5% sets won, 51.3% games won.
- Ferro's 2026 clay season record is 22-9; Barthel's is 6-7.
Barthel's first serve percentage is just 52.2% in her last 15 matches, forcing her into many second serves. Her second serve points won is 41.4%, well below the tour average.
Against Ferro, who returns at 49.8% points won in her last 15 matches, Barthel's weak second serve will be under constant pressure. This could lead to frequent break opportunities for Ferro.
- Barthel's last 15 matches: 9.3 double faults per match, 52.2% first serve in, 41.4% second serve points won.
- Ferro's last 15 matches: 49.8% return points won, 54.3% break points converted.
The two players have split four career meetings, but Ferro won the only clay encounter, which came in their most recent match.
That December 2025 win gives Ferro a recent, surface-specific reference point for beating Barthel. However, the sample is small, and Barthel has won two of the four overall meetings.
- H2H: Ferro leads 2-2 overall, but won the only clay match 6-4 1-6 6-2 in December 2025.
- Surface split: Ferro leads 1-0 on clay.
Ferro, 29, is the No. 4 seed and enters this match after winning five straight matches at Saint-Palais, including a final on 6 September.
She has only one full day between that final and this Montreux opener, which limits recovery and clay-specific preparation compared with Barthel. The effect is uncertain because Ferro has been winning efficiently and her recent sample shows no sign of fatigue.
- Ferro was listed as a Saint-Palais finalist on 6 September and as the No. 4 seed for the Montreux first round against Barthel.
- Stored recent sample: 5 wins from 5 tracked matches.
