Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 29 Aug 2026, 03:44 · Europe/Bucharest

Starodubtseva is favored based on superior return stats and a dominant H2H win, but her hard-court form is shaky.

The best betting angle is Over 7.5 total double faults, driven by Seidel's 5.7 double faults per match. Avoid backing Seidel outright despite high odds, as her poor form and serve make her a risky underdog.

Context

Starodubtseva, ranked 74, is a right-hander who has been more successful on clay this season, with a 13-7 record there compared to 13-13 on hard courts.
Her recent hard-court results show a clear dip: she has won only two of six matches, and her return points won drop to 41.2% on the surface. That suggests she may struggle to break Seidel's serve, though her first-serve points won remain respectable at 59.1%.
- Last 15 hard-court record: 2-4 (33.3%)
- Hard-court return points won: 41.2%
- Hard-court first-serve points won: 59.1%
Seidel, ranked 124, is a right-hander with a career double-fault rate that has worsened recently.
Her high double-fault count gives Starodubtseva free points and extra break opportunities. On hard courts, Seidel's second-serve points won is only 43.4%, so Starodubtseva can attack that second serve.
- Last 15 overall double faults per match: 5.7
- Hard-court double faults per match: 6.1
- Hard-court second-serve points won: 43.4%
The two players met once before, on clay in April 2024.
Starodubtseva won 6-3 6-1, winning 59% of return points and converting all three break points. That dominance may not fully transfer to hard court, but it gives her a psychological edge.
- 2024 clay match: Starodubtseva won 6-3 6-1
- Starodubtseva won 59% of return points
- Starodubtseva converted 100% of break points
This first-round match is on hard courts at the US Open, with play starting August 30. Both players have struggled on hard courts recently, so the surface does not clearly favor either.
- The tournament is listed as a hard-court Grand Slam running from August 30 to September 13, with the women's singles first round scheduled from August 30 to September 1.
