Context last updated 12 Jul 2026, 12:32 · Europe/Bucharest

Sebastian Baez is a massive favorite over wildcard Max Dahlin, with a huge ranking and clay-court experience edge.

Dahlin’s weak serve will be exploited by Baez’s elite return, leading to a likely straight-set win. The best value is under 5.5 total aces at 1.85, given both players’ low ace rates on clay.

Context

Baez won the M25 Most Challenger title in June, beating Alex Molcan (rank 101), Nikolas Sanchez-Izquierdo (214), Maxim Mrva (295), and Tristan Boyer (191) without dropping a set.
- His only clay loss in this stretch was a five-setter to Jan-Lennard Struff (rank 74) at Wimbledon, where he led two sets to love.
- Baez's last five clay wins averaged just 12.4 games per match, showing he can close out sets efficiently.
In his last 15 matches, Dahlin's opponents had an average ranking of approximately 800, with only one inside the top 600.
- Dahlin's career win rate is 55.8% at ITF level, while Baez has a 60.5% win rate on clay at ATP/Challenger level.
- Dahlin's serve stats (56.2% first serves, 49.3% second-serve points won) are vulnerable even against ITF opponents, and Baez wins 42% of return points on clay.

Baez's return pressure and Dahlin's weak serve should lead to one-sided sets, keeping total games under 20.5 in a likely straight-setter.
- Baez's last 5 clay wins averaged 18.2 total games; Dahlin's last 5 losses averaged 19.6 total games
- Dahlin's serve stats (56.2% first serves, 49.3% second-serve points) suggest quick holds are unlikely against Baez's 42% return points won
- Baez's high break-point conversion (44.7%) and Dahlin's low ace rate (6.8%) point to frequent breaks and shorter games

- Baez's last 5 clay wins: set scores include 6-4, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2, 6-4; Dahlin's last 5 losses: set scores include 6-4, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 6-1

- Baez break-point conversion 44.7% vs Dahlin break-point save 61.9%, but Dahlin faces far fewer break points at ITF level

- Dahlin's second-serve points won drops to 49.3%, making him vulnerable as match progresses

Baez's strong first-set record and Dahlin's serve vulnerability suggest Baez can control from the start, though Dahlin's fighting spirit (60% deciding-set wins) adds some risk of a dropped set.
- Baez first-set win conversion 85% career; Dahlin first-set win conversion 83% but against much weaker opposition
- Baez has won 7 of last 10 matches in straight sets; Dahlin lost 4 of last 10 in straight sets

The read
Baez's dominance in early sets and Dahlin's lack of tour-level experience make a straight-set win the most probable outcome.
- Baez has won 7 of last 10 matches in straight sets; Dahlin has lost 4 of last 10 in straight sets
- Baez first-set win conversion 85% strongly correlates with straight-set wins
- Dahlin's 60% deciding-set win rate is against ITF opponents, unlikely to translate against a top-60 clay specialist

The read
Both players have low ace rates, and clay further diminishes serve dominance, making under 5.5 aces highly likely.
- Baez ace rate 2.2% (career 777 aces in 486 matches); Dahlin ace rate 6.8% but against lower-level opponents
- Clay surface reduces ace counts; both players rely on rally tolerance rather than big serves
- Baez's first-serve points won 63.6% indicates placement over power; Dahlin's 73% first-serve points won is inflated by ITF competition

The read
Baez's ability to break serve and Dahlin's weak hold stats make tiebreaks unlikely, as sets should be decided by breaks.
- Baez tiebreak win% 51% career; Dahlin 70% but only 10 career tiebreaks
- Baez's last 10 matches: only 2 tiebreaks; Dahlin's last 10: 4 tiebreaks, all against ITF opponents
- Baez's break-point conversion 44.7% suggests he'll create separation in sets without needing tiebreaks

The read
Dahlin's high double-fault rate and second-serve vulnerability under pressure could push total double faults over 4.5, though Baez's low rate keeps it borderline.
- Dahlin double-fault rate 4.1% (122 in 43 matches); Baez 2.5% (874 in 486 matches)
- Dahlin's low first-serve percentage (56.2%) forces more second serves, increasing double-fault risk
- Baez's return pressure may force Dahlin into riskier second serves
