Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 3 Jul 2026, 06:34 · Europe/Bucharest

Rybakina's dominant 7-1 H2H record, superior grass-court serve, and Mertens' struggles against power players make her a strong favorite to win in straight sets.

The total games are likely to stay under 20.5, and Rybakina -5.5 on the game handicap offers value, though her hip issue adds slight risk. Avoid Mertens +5.5 and the overpriced Rybakina 2-0 set betting line.

Context

Withdrew from Bad Homburg (late June 2026) with right hip discomfort.
- Has since played and won two Wimbledon matches, including a three-setter against Boisson.
- No retirement or mid-match treatment reported at Wimbledon so far, but the issue remains recent.
Rybakina leads 7-1 overall, with six straight-set wins.
- Mertens' only win came on clay in 2021; Rybakina has won all six hard-court meetings.
- In H2H, Mertens has won just 36% of return points and converted only 30% of break points.
Lost 6-3 6-3 to Osaka (Berlin, June 23) and 6-1 6-4 to Bartunkova (Bad Homburg, June 17).
- Both opponents hit with power and served well, similar to Rybakina's profile.
- Mertens' return points won in those losses were below her career average.
