Joaquin Aguilar Cardozo #32822 – 0Miguel Tobon #466Colombia0

Aguilar Cardozo stopped his Santa Cruz 2 round-of-16 match while trailing 0-6, 1-2 . That retirement falls within the 30 days preceding Guayaquil, so it is relevant availability context for this fixture. No diagnosis, subsequent availability update, or indication that the issue remains active is available here. His scheduled appearance in Guayaquil does not establish the reason for the retirement or its current effect.

Aguilar Cardozo's recent record includes a clean straight-sets win over a top-215 opponent, the strongest single result in his supplied sample.

That result shows he can handle a player ranked well above his own No. 328, and he did it without dropping a set. The caveat sits in his six supplied recent matches: both defeats there came against opponents ranked No. 212 or better, so the step up in class is where he has come unstuck. Tobon at No. 466 is a different test, but the Varillas win is the clearest evidence of his current level.

Tobon's recent clay record contains a win over an opponent 351 ranking places above him, sealed in a third-set tiebreak.

It is the standout result in his supplied sample and shows he can stay with a much higher-ranked player across three sets. He won 17 games to 14 in that match, so it was close throughout rather than a dominant performance. Against Aguilar Cardozo, ranked No. 328, that result suggests the ranking gap in this first round may overstate the difference on the day.

Tobon arrived in the main draw through two Guayaquil qualifying wins on 25 and . The route gives this match a current-event context and means he has already competed at the venue this week. Both matches finished in straight sets, so the available record does not show an exceptional qualifying workload. The evidence establishes the route, not any broader conclusion about physical readiness.
