Context last updated 25 Oct 2026, 13:05 · Europe/Bucharest

The ranking says Toby Samuel, No. 96; the autumn hard-court form says Inaki Montes-De La Torre, No. 185, who has won 10 of 13 opening sets while Samuel has taken 5 of 12.

Montes-De La Torre looks the likelier winner, and the prices bear that out: 2.9 for him to take the first set and 3.3 for the match are both generous, while Samuel's 1.29 and 1.36 ask for more than his record shows.

Context

His opening sets run long — 10.75 games on average — and three of the 12 went to a first-set tiebreak.
Montes-De La Torre has won 10 of his 13 first sets in the same period, so the opener is where the ranking gap looks least convincing. A long first set would not surprise, but Samuel's habit of falling behind hands the lower-ranked man the early edge.
- Samuel's first-set record is 5-7 across 12 hard-court matches tracked from 24 July to 20 October 2026.
- He averages 5.17 games won and 5.58 lost in first sets.
- Three of those 12 matches included a first-set tiebreak.
His matches average 2.38 sets, and his second sets (10.54 games) have been noticeably longer than his first sets (8.77).
The straight-set pattern supports a short match here, and it sits against Samuel's 9-3 second-set record, which is his strongest area. If the match does reach a decider, these records offer little on who holds up better.
- Montes-De La Torre's 13 tracked hard-court matches from 3 September to 4 October 2026 include seven 2-0 wins and five three-set matches.
- He averages 2.38 sets and 23.08 total games per match.
- His first sets average 8.77 total games; his second sets average 10.54.
The 27 October first-round slot places both players at the same opening hurdle in Brest. It frames the fixture as their entry point rather than a late-stage match. The supplied listing identifies hard court but does not specify the exact court or playing conditions.
- The fixture is listed as a Brest Challenger men's singles first-round match on hard court.

The 0-0 record means this fixture has no direct series reference. It makes their first competitive meeting a distinct part of the Brest context. The supplied material does not provide comparable previous-matchup detail between them.
- Their head-to-head record is listed as 0-0.
