Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 27 Oct 2026, 20:20 · Europe/Bucharest

Hurkacz brings the higher ranking and five wins in his last six, but Rune has won 10 of his last 14 hard-court matches and took their only meeting.

Hurkacz is the likelier winner, though 1.55 asks for far more than his form justifies. Rune at 2.4 is the one price worth considering.

Context

The Djokovic win is the standout result in a 14-match hard-court sample that reads 11-3. Hurkacz followed it with straight-set wins over James Duckworth and Karen Khachanov before losing a tight three-setter to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on 13 October. That body of work explains why he starts as the favourite here, though the sample is recent form rather than a long-term rate.
- Hurkacz beat Novak Djokovic 6-4 6-3 on 9 October 2026 on hard court.
- Hurkacz is 11-3 across his last 14 completed hard-court matches, with five wins in his last six.
Rune's early-set numbers are the stronger of the two, which matters in a best-of-three format where the opener carries real weight. Hurkacz's sample is one match shorter and both sets of figures come from small, recent windows rather than a season-long rate. One retirement was excluded from each player's sample, so the counts reflect completed matches only.
- Rune won 10 of 14 first sets on hard court, sample 25 September 2025 to 26 October 2026, one retirement excluded.
- Hurkacz won 8 of 13 first sets on hard court, sample 24 September to 27 October 2026, one retirement excluded.
Their only prior match was Rune’s 7-5, 6-1 win on indoor hard court at the 2022 Paris Masters. It is the direct historical reference for this pairing. Four years have passed, so that match does not establish the current matchup balance.
- Rune defeated Hurkacz 7-5, 6-1 in their 2022 Paris Masters meeting.

Rune needed three sets and two tiebreaks to get past a player ranked 46th, so his route into the second round was long and tight. That is a workload fact rather than a fitness verdict, and no physical problem has been reported. It does mean he arrives having spent considerably more time on court in Basel than Hurkacz, who also went three sets on 27 October.
- Rune beat Quentin Halys 6-4 6-7 7-6 on 26 October 2026 (indoor hard).
- The match lasted 36 games and contained two tiebreaks.
