Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 25 Oct 2026, 12:37 · Europe/Bucharest

Sakamoto, ranked 124, meets Samrej, ranked 382, with a straight-sets win over him in their only meeting, yet Samrej's break-point defence and level first-serve numbers keep the first round live.

Sakamoto is the likely winner, but 1.08 leaves nothing in his price. The worthwhile quotes sit with Samrej: 6.5 to win the match and 4.25 in each of the first two sets.

Context

Holding serve under pressure has been the most dependable part of Samrej's recent hard-court record, and it is a higher rate than Sakamoto's 58.5% from 31 of 53 break points. That gives the lower-ranked player a way to stay in games even when he is behind. The sample is 15 matches, so it describes a short recent run rather than a settled level.
- Samrej saved 55 of 80 break points (68.8%) across his 15 hard-court matches in the recent sample, which runs to 21 October 2026.
- His record across those 15 matches is 9-6.
- Sakamoto's comparable rate is 31 of 53 (58.5%) over his 14 tracked hard-court matches.
It is the best win in his recent sample and sits inside a 10-5 hard-court run. The other side of that record is a 2-6, 4-6 loss to Karen Khachanov, ranked 25, on 20 October, so the top-30 level has produced both a clean win and a flat loss. Against an opponent ranked 382, the Rublev result shows the level Sakamoto can reach in this event.
- Sakamoto beat Andrey Rublev 6-4, 6-4 on 9 October 2026.
- Rublev was ranked 22 at the time of the match.
- The win came on hard courts, the same surface as this first round.
A fast start has been the pattern, and seven 2-0 finishes in the same 13-match span show he can close without needing a third set. He also lost 0-2 three times in that sample, so the short match is a recurring outcome rather than an automatic one. Samrej has won the opening set in 8 of his 15 hard-court matches, which is enough to make the first set a contest.
- Sakamoto won the first set in 9 of 13 completed hard-court matches between 26 August and 20 October 2026.
- Seven of those 13 matches finished 2-0, three finished 0-2 and three went to a third set.
- He averaged 22.8 total games per match across that 13-match set sample.
The Yokohama result gives this matchup one direct recent reference point, including a first-set tiebreak before Sakamoto completed the match in straight sets. It is relevant because the same players meet again on hard courts in Seoul. The evidence is confined to one match, so it describes their prior encounter rather than a broader matchup pattern.
- The 2025 Yokohama meeting ended 7-6(4), 6-4 to Sakamoto.
