Navone's return against Griekspoor's serve is the whole story of this second round.

Griekspoor wins 77.6% of first-serve points on hard but needed two hours 13 minutes and three sets to beat the world No. 302, while Navone needed a 12-10 tiebreak to avoid dropping a set. Navone looks the likelier winner, and 2.30 on him is the one price worth taking; 1.60 on Griekspoor is not.

Context

A 12-day gap since the Kotov defeat makes Brussels his first competitive tennis in almost two weeks, so the three-setter both supplies rhythm and adds load before a second round scheduled the following day. Spending two hours 13 minutes on court against a player outside the top 300 also means his serve and return were tested across far more games than a straight-set winner faces, which makes this the best available read on his current indoor level. The direction of that evidence is unresolved: the same match can be read as rust or as a struggle, and the score alone does not separate the two.
- Griekspoor beat Max Schönhaus 7-6(3) 6-7(5) 7-5 in the Brussels first round .
- The match lasted two hours 13 minutes and included a lost second-set tiebreak.
- Griekspoor's previous match was a 6-4 7-6(4) defeat to Pavel Kotov on 8 October.

Navone was two points from losing the opening set on four separate occasions, and the 12-10 tiebreak stretched it well beyond a normal set, so his straight-set win was decided by a handful of points rather than by control. Because this is his only completed match on indoor hard this season, that tiebreak is the freshest read on how his clay-built game is translating to the surface. The limit is the opponent: a compatriot of similar ranking with almost no indoor record provides a weak measure of level against a player with more indoor experience.
- Navone beat Juan Manuel Cerúndolo 7-6(10) 6-2 in the Brussels first round .
- He saved four set points in the first-set tiebreak and closed the set on his third set point at 12-10.
- Navone is the No. 8 seed in Brussels.

Griekspoor's route through this match runs through free points on his own delivery rather than through long baseline exchanges.
His first serve lands 64 per cent of the time in that window, and when it does he wins roughly three points in four. That pushes opponents onto second serves, where his win rate drops to 54.2 per cent and he averages 3.7 double faults a match. Navone's return numbers suggest he will get a look at those second serves.
- Across 14 matches, Griekspoor averaged 11.4 aces per match (159 in total).
- He won 75.5 per cent of first-serve points (586 of 776) in the same window.
- His first-serve rate was 64 per cent (776 of 1213) and he averaged 3.7 double faults.
Griekspoor has tended to start slowly on this surface, though rarely by a wide margin.
Those first sets average 10.8 games, so he has been losing close opening sets rather than being overrun. He has been the stronger second-set player in the same sample at 6-4, which is part of why his matches so often stretch to a third set. A fast start from him would remove Navone's early foothold.
- Ten completed hard-court matches from 27 July to 20 October 2026: first-set record 3-7.
- First sets averaged 10.8 total games with four tiebreaks.
- Second sets in the same sample: 6-4.
