Context last updated 21 Oct 2026, 06:26 · Europe/Bucharest

La Serna is 45 places higher and starts sets better, but Torres has beaten him twice on clay this year — that is the tension in Cali.

La Serna is the slightly likelier winner, though only narrowly, so the 1.55 on him asks for more than the record supports. Torres at 2.3 is the one quoted price with anything behind it, and the edge there is thin, at +2.5 points.

Context

Dellien, ranked No. 118 and seeded fourth, is the strongest opponent either player has beaten on this swing, and the win came in a direct rematch of a semifinal lost three days earlier, so La Serna had already spent a match measuring that serve and backhand. Dellien stopped at 2-0 in the second set with physical problems, which means the scalp is real but the evidence behind it is thin. La Serna spent nine games on court, so his level in Cali is largely unmeasured and he has had no long match this week.
- Dellien retired at 6-3 2-0 in the Cali first round
- Dellien had beaten La Serna 6-4 6-3 in the Santa Cruz 2 semifinal on 17 October 2026
- Dellien was ranked No. 118 and seeded fourth in Cali; La Serna was No. 253

Both meetings fall inside the Challenger tier the two now share, so the pattern reflects current levels rather than an older ranking gap. The Cordoba semifinal is the more instructive of the two: Torres won it in straight sets against a left-hander he will face from the same side again, and it came on his way to a final. La Serna did extend the Buenos Aires match to a third set, so the head-to-head is not a series of one-sided wins. Two matches give a direction rather than a settled matchup, and neither was played in Colombia, so this pairing meets in new conditions.
- Torres won the Cordoba semifinal 6-4 6-2 on 15 May 2026
- Torres won the Buenos Aires first round 6-3 2-6 6-4 on 12 January 2026
- Both meetings were played on clay

The 22-year-old left-hander has been the quicker starter in this clay window, taking the opening set in eight of twelve matches.
An early lead is his most repeatable contribution: he has won two-thirds of first sets without needing a single first-set tiebreak. Against a player who has lost eight of thirteen opening sets, that is the clearest route to controlling the match. The sample is twelve matches, so it describes a recent pattern rather than a fixed habit.
- 8-4 in first sets across 12 completed clay matches, 18 August to 17 October 2026
- Averages 5.25 first-set games won against 3.5 lost
- No first-set tiebreak in the twelve-match sample
The move from No. 285 to No. 253 came inside one week and rests on a single clay tournament, which matters here because it puts the 22-year-old marginally above Torres in a match between players separated by 45 ranking places. The Santa Cruz week brought three wins, including a 6-1 6-7(4) 6-4 quarter-final over Franco Roncadelli, before the semifinal loss to Dellien, so he arrives with recent match volume as well as a first ranking foothold inside the top 260. One week is a narrow base for a ranking claim: his two earlier semifinals this season had not produced a comparable jump.
- La Serna reached his third Challenger semifinal of the season in Santa Cruz 2
- He was ranked No. 285 during that week and No. 253 by
- His previous career best was No. 282 in May 2026
