Context last updated 18 Oct 2026, 04:55 · Europe/Bucharest

Giron arrives on six straight defeats; Struff took a set off Medvedev in Shanghai and is the likelier winner of this first-round match.

But Struff is only 4-5 on hard courts himself and both their meetings went to a deciding set. The prices reviewed — Struff 1.50, first set 1.55, under 2.5 sets 1.55, Struff 2-0 at 2.30 — ask more than that justifies, so none is worth backing.

Context

Neither has played a competitive match at Brussels Expo this week: Struff was entered in qualifying and moved straight into the main draw when places opened, and Giron was added in the same update. The call came five days before the match, after both had finished their Asian hard-court events, so neither arrives with qualifying wins or with a loss on this court. What it does establish is that both were outside the original main draw, which is why a first-round meeting at an ATP 250 is their entry point into the week. It is entry status rather than a change of level, and it applies to both men equally.
- Struff had been listed in Brussels qualifying before being moved into the main draw
- Giron was added to the main draw in the same entry-list update
- Halys, Burruchaga and Vallejo came out of the main draw

Six consecutive defeats, including losses to players ranked 106th and 369th, is the most direct evidence available on Giron's level going into an indoor hard-court week. Hard courts are the surface recorded as his preference, which makes a 3-7 record across his last ten matches on it more telling than the overall run. The counterpoint is that the sequence was not a collapse: he won the opening set 6-1 against Baez before losing in three, and he took two sets off Ignacio Buse in a five-set US Open defeat. All six losses came outdoors, so Brussels is his first indoor match of the autumn.
- Baez beat Giron 1-6 6-3 6-4 in Shanghai
- Giron lost to Jaume Munar in Tokyo in late September
- The run also includes defeats by Hubert Hurkacz, Henrique Rocha and Dhakshineswar Suresh
ConfirmedSources checked 18 Oct 2026, 04:52 · Europe/Bucharest
The surface is a modular hard court laid over the arena floor for the week, so it is a build rather than a permanent show court, and the tournament is only in its second season in Brussels. Indoor conditions remove wind and sun and give a consistent, medium bounce, which is a different proposition from the outdoor hard courts both players have just left in Shanghai and Tokyo. The one measurable oddity of the week is organisational rather than sporting: the final weekend is staged in a different hall from the one used for this first-round match. No court pace rating is published for ATP 250 events, so how fast this court actually plays is not measured.
- Brussels is an ATP 250 played on indoor hard courts
- The 2026 event runs 17-25 October at Brussels Expo
- The final weekend of the tournament moves from Palais 12 to Palais 5
- 2025 was the first Brussels edition after the move from Antwerp

Winning on Monday earns a second-round meeting with a Belgian who has a bye and therefore arrives without a match on the Brussels court, while the first-round winner will have played. Blockx reached the quarter-finals of this year's US Open, the strongest recent result in that section of the draw, and he is at home, so the crowd in the second round would be his. That gives an added edge to a first-round match between two men who entered the draw only five days earlier. Blockx has not yet played this week, so his current form is unresolved.
- Blockx's published draw path lists a first-round bye and Struff or Giron in the second round
- Blockx, a US Open quarter-finalist, was added to the Brussels line-up for 17-25 October
