Context last updated 18 Oct 2026, 17:26 · Europe/Bucharest

Passaro brings a ten-match clay streak and two titles into a first round the day after his Maia final, against a home wild card ranked 781 with no completed match since May.

He should win, but six of his 13 clay matches went to a third set, and 1.07 asks for certainty his workload does not support; 1.15 for the second set is no better. The prices with something behind them are Elias at 7 to win and 4.75 to take the second set.

Context

The schedule is the sharpest asymmetry in this match: a ten-match, 13-day block ending with a final on Sunday, then a first-round match on Monday 19 October with no rest day. Inside that block he needed three sets against Trungelliti (2-6 7-5 7-6(5)), Dodig (5-7 6-1 6-4) and Piros, so the accumulated court time sits in the third-set and tie-break range rather than in short straight-set wins. The limitation is that he won all ten and showed no physical break in the sequence, with no retirement, walkover or medical timeout recorded, so this is an unproven load risk rather than an observed decline.
- Passaro's Maia run began on 14 October and ended with the final
- He came from a set down against Trungelliti, Dodig and Piros in consecutive matches
- The Lisbon first round is scheduled for 19 October, the day after the Maia final

Two titles in eight days separate Passaro from a routine Challenger week: he beat Forejtek in a third-set tie-break in Palermo on 11 October and then Piros 4-6 6-3 6-2 in the Maia final, arriving in Lisbon on a ten-match clay winning run. That run is the strongest current form evidence in this fixture and the main reason a No. 229 ranking understates him. The counterweight is the level of opposition: nine of the ten wins came against players ranked outside the top 100, with only Marco Trungelliti (No. 90) inside it, so the streak is dominance of Challenger fields rather than proof against higher-ranked opponents.
- Passaro beat Piros 4-6 6-3 6-2 in the Maia final
- He won the Palermo final against Forejtek 6-3 6-7(2) 7-6(4) on 11 October
- Palermo and Maia were back-to-back finals in consecutive weeks

A wild card is the only realistic route into the draw at No. 781, and it places a Portuguese player in front of a home crowd in the opening round. The five-month gap since that May retirement means there is no current competitive evidence at all: no completed match, no recent clay result and no statement about his condition attached to the entry. That cuts both ways for reading the fixture, since a low ranking and an 0-3 clay record in his last 15 matches point one way, while an untested player with home support and no ranking pressure is harder to project than the number suggests.
- Elias is a wild card entrant in the Lisbon first round
- His last match ended in retirement on 12 May 2026
- He is ranked No. 781

Passaro's clay run has been built on recoveries more than on fast starts.
Across 13 clay matches from 8 September to 18 October 2026 he took the opening set seven times and lost it six, then won the second set ten times, four of them in tie-breaks. Against Piros on 18 October, Dodig on 17 October and Trungelliti on 16 October he lost the first set and still won in three. An early deficit has been routine rather than alarming in this stretch.
- Passaro is 7-6 in first sets and 10-3 in second sets across 13 clay matches tracked from 8 September to 18 October 2026
- He lost the opening set to Piros (18 October), Dodig (17 October) and Trungelliti (16 October) and won all three matches in three sets
