Andrej Martin #387Slovakia00 – 2Alexander Ritschard #563Switzerland2

A clay title taken against the top seed, with only five games conceded in the final, is the most current competitive evidence behind a run of 14 wins in Ritschard's last 15 matches, and it explains why a player ranked No. 563 arrives with more recent winning tennis than the ranking suggests. The limitation is level: an M25 sits several tiers below a Challenger 100, so the win measures dominance over a field ranked in the 300s to 800s rather than against the 100-200 bracket. The one defeat in that stretch came to Sebastian Ofner, ranked 120, which places the ceiling of this form around Challenger main-draw standard rather than above it.

The same opponent played both men within 72 hours on clay, and the gap in scorelines is stark: Ritschard conceded five games in beating him, while Martin won three games in losing to him. That gives this qualifying round a shared reference point that pure ranking cannot, because No. 563 has just handled an opponent who dismantled No. 387. The counterpoint is real: the Zaragoza match was an M25 final and the Palermo match a 50-level Challenger second round, Moro Canas had played a final three days earlier, and Martin had come through qualifying, so the two results are not a controlled comparison of the two men.

Ritschard's serve drives a 14-1 clay run, and it does so on a low first-serve percentage.

His first serve is close to unplayable when it lands: 413 of 545 points (75.8%) across 15 clay matches. The cost is that barely half do (53.2%), and 3.5 double faults a match plus 50.6% on second serve give Martin's return something to work with. Martin has won nine of 14 clay matches and will need those second-serve looks.

Both men enter the same round with the same reward, so the fixture carries no asymmetric stake; the point is what a main-draw place at a 100-level clay Challenger is worth to players ranked 387 and 563, who are outside the main-draw cut-off and are playing for direct entry plus the ranking points that come with it. Lisbon is the third Portuguese event in a fortnight behind Braga and Maia, and the qualifying field is drawn almost entirely from players in the same ranking band, which makes this a level match-up on paper. The venue detail matters only in that Court Lisboa is an outdoor clay court at a club site rather than a tour-scale stadium.
