Context last updated 18 Oct 2026, 03:20 · Europe/Bucharest

A qualifying round where the ranking gap and the results pull apart: Lagutin is 209 places higher, but Milev has won 11 of 15 clay matches and beaten top-350 opponents.

Lagutin is the likelier winner, yet 1.3 on him asks more than his case justifies. Milev at 3.2 to win, and 2.75 to take the opening set, are the two prices with something in them.

Context

Treatment at two separate points of a three-set match is the only current physical signal around Milev, and it comes six days before he is due to play another clay-court qualifier. Clay is where his ranking and results sit, and long baseline exchanges would expose any restriction in movement faster than a quicker surface would. He finished the match and lost the deciding tiebreak 7-2 rather than retiring, and no withdrawal, walkover or injury statement has followed, so an ongoing problem is not established.
- Treatment was called after Iannaccone took the first set 7-6
- A second stoppage came with the third set level at 6-6
- Milev lost the deciding tiebreak 7-2 and did not reach the Catania main draw
- The match was the last round of qualifying, six days before this Florence round

The run is the strongest recent evidence about Milev's level: a player ranked No. 619 beating opponents at No. 271 and No. 335 on clay in the same week, then losing only to the man who reached the Palermo final. It explains the distance between his ranking and his results, and it sets the bar for what he brings to a 50-level qualifying round. The counterweight is the cost of the run, six matches in seven days followed immediately by Catania qualifying and two treatment stoppages there, which leaves his reserves unverified rather than proven.
- Milev won five consecutive matches at Palermo between 4 and 9 October
- Gadamauri, ranked No. 271, was beaten 6-2 7-6(5)
- Sanchez Jover, ranked No. 335, was beaten 7-5 6-3
- Passaro, ranked No. 229, won the semifinal 6-2 6-1

Lagutin, 21 and ranked No. 410, has been turning qualifying weeks at ATP 50 level into main-draw wins, and a 6-4 6-1 result against a top-350 opponent is the clearest recent marker of that. The 7-5 6-3 loss to Giunta, ranked 20 places above him, shows the same week ending at the same ceiling rather than breaking through it. Three days separate that defeat from this Florence round, a normal gap rather than a workload story, so the line is a modest form reference rather than a decisive one.
- Lagutin was listed among the qualifiers drawn against Geerts
- Geerts, ranked No. 345, was beaten 6-4 6-1
- Giunta, ranked No. 390, won their next meeting 7-5 6-3
ConfirmedSources checked 18 Oct 2026, 03:19 · Europe/Bucharest
At ATP 50 level the immediate stake is a main-draw place rather than tour-level points, and both players are ranked in the 400s and 600s, the band that has to qualify from week to week. That shapes how the result should be read: this is a qualifying round at the smallest Challenger tier, not a main-draw meeting with a seeded opponent waiting. The venue change also follows directly from the Sicilian swing, with the two events played in consecutive weeks.
- Florence appears as an ATP 50 event in the week-42 Challenger entry list
- The main draw and qualifying draw were published
- Both players are placed in the qualifying draw rather than the main draw
