Benjamin Torrealba #80700 – 2Daniel Salazar Martinez #693Colombia2

The retirement came two days before this match, so the only competitive evidence available is that he stopped mid-match at 3-0 in the third set after taking the opening set 6-3. Nothing since explains the cause and he has not withdrawn from Cali qualifying, so the practical question is whether a player who competed on three straight days can carry a long clay match against an opponent who has not played for a fortnight. That recovery gap is the clearest asymmetry between two players separated by 114 ranking places. Because the retirement is unexplained rather than a confirmed injury, this is a load and recovery note rather than an established fitness problem.

It is the only match Torrealba has played in the past month, and it ended with him losing the last three games after a third-set medical timeout at 1-2. The cause of the timeout was not established and he completed the match, so this is a fortnight-old interruption rather than a current injury, and no follow-up report or withdrawal from Cali exists. Its relevance is preparation rhythm, because he arrives without competition since while his opponent has played on each of the past three days. Without a diagnosed issue the episode should not be read as a fitness disadvantage.

Cali's return to the calendar places this tie at the bottom of a 75-level draw rather than at a standalone lower-tier event, and the prize is a main-draw place alongside players of the standing of Mejía, Heide, Comesaña, Dellien and Jarry. That field sets the level awaiting the winner, so two qualifying wins carry more weight here than the 114-place ranking gap between the two players. Both men enter from outside the main draw, and the court assignment and order of play for this qualifying round have not been published, which limits how far conditions can be factored in.

Salazar Martinez, ranked No. 693, has won four of his last six completed clay matches, but the wins in that stretch came against unranked opponents.

The run of clay wins is real but thin on opposition quality: the Cali victories on 14 and 15 October came against unranked players, and when a ranked opponent appeared on 10 October he managed six games. Torrealba at No. 807 is a step up from those unranked names without being a barrier, so this cuts both ways for the favourite.
