Context last updated 17 Oct 2026, 03:16 · Europe/Bucharest

Two players arrive in Brussels off first-round Challenger losses, and the question is whether Mpetshi Perricard's serve can end a seven-match losing run against a returner who has competed better on hard.

Bertola is the likelier winner. At 2.1 he is the one reviewed price worth taking; Mpetshi Perricard at 1.73 is not.

Context

Mpetshi Perricard has not won a completed match since 14 June, losing seven in a row, and his return to the Challenger circuit at Roanne ended with a 7-6(5) 7-6(3) first-round loss to world No. 817 Étienne Donnet . He was not broken in that match but created almost no return chances, the pattern behind the run, so the results reflect tie-break margins and a serve-dependent game rather than a failing serve. In a first meeting with a lower-ranked qualifier, the danger is that any opponent who extends rallies forces him to win the points he has been losing. His No. 108 ranking still leaves him the higher-ranked player, so the streak qualifies rather than erases the gap.
- Lost 7-6(5) 7-6(3) to world No. 817 Étienne Donnet in the opening round of the Roanne Challenger .
- Seventh consecutive defeat; last completed win was on 14 June 2026.
- Entered at No. 108 and close to falling outside the top 150.
- Was listed in the Roanne Challenger entry list as a return to the secondary circuit (12–18 October).

Slow starts have been the pattern on this surface: 0-4 in first sets across four hard-court matches, with one of those sets reaching a tiebreak. The same four matches show a better second-set return, level at 2-2 with 5.0 games won against 4.25 lost, so the opening set has been his weakest phase rather than the whole match. A four-match sample is small, but it points to an early opening for Bertola.
- Lost the first set in all four completed hard-court matches in the window, 4 Aug–13 Oct 2026, averaging 3.0 games won to 6.25 lost.
- One of those four first sets went to a tiebreak.
- Second sets in the same four matches were level at 2-2, averaging 5.0 games won to 4.25 lost.
The serve is the reliable part of his game — 15.5 aces a match and 75.9% of first-serve points won across 15 matches — while the return has produced 28% of points and 16 break points converted from 63. He has also saved 63.4% of the break points against him. For this match that means his path runs through holding serve; if Bertola keeps enough returns in play, the pressure lands on Mpetshi Perricard's weakest phase.
- 15 tracked matches to 13 Oct 2026: 15.5 aces per match and 75.9% of first-serve points won (666 of 877).
- 28.0% of return points won (344 of 1,230) and 25.4% of break points converted (16 of 63) in the same sample.
- Saved 63.4% of break points faced (52 of 82).
Bertola, ranked No. 227, arrives from a 7-5 7-5 first-round loss to Otto Virtanen, the world No. 107 and third seed, at the Roanne Challenger . His season has been built around Challenger events, and his recent indoor-hard wins came against lower-ranked opponents, so he enters the qualifying draw without a main-tour result behind him. Facing the 2.01m Mpetshi Perricard, the 1.75m Swiss needs to win return exchanges to offset the serve gap, and the straight-sets loss to Virtanen shows that pressure did not materialise against a higher-ranked server. The ranking and physical gap remain the dominant factors in the fixture.
- Lost 7-5 7-5 to third seed Otto Virtanen (No. 107) in the Roanne Challenger first round .
- Holds a ranking of No. 227.
