Fernandez's steadier hard-court form meets Ostapenko's three-set upset of world No.

4 Pegula, with Ostapenko describing arm pain after that two-hour-23-minute win. Fernandez is the likelier winner, and 1.8 for her to win the match and 1.8 for her to finish with more games both offer a little. No other quoted price does.

Context

Ostapenko saved three match points to beat the fourth-ranked Pegula in two hours and 23 minutes, then described arm pain that required a painkiller during the match. She returns in the round of 16 a day later against a left-hander who defends well and extends rallies, so a repeat would affect her serve and first-strike game. The exact severity is not established beyond her own account, and no medical timeout or withdrawal has been recorded, so this is an active but unquantified condition.
- Ostapenko: "I had a lot of pain in my arm, then I took a painkiller, and I was fighting for every single point."
- Ostapenko had just completed a two-hour-23-minute three-set win over the world No. 4.
- No medical timeout, retirement or withdrawal has been recorded in the Wuhan draw for Ostapenko.

The win over Pegula is Ostapenko's strongest result of the Asian swing and her third top-10 victory of 2026, after a straight-sets defeat of Kasatkina in the previous round. The two-hour-23-minute match plus match points saved make it a stamina cost as well as a form line entering the round of 16. Her hard-court season before Wuhan produced only four wins in nine matches tracked, so this run is a departure from that record rather than its continuation.
- Ostapenko won 2-6 7-6(7) 6-3 against the fourth-ranked Pegula, saving three match points in the second-set tiebreak.
- The result was her third top-10 win of 2026 and the 28th of her career.
- She had beaten Daria Kasatkina 6-1 6-1 in the previous round.
- Pegula was the second seed and had been a finalist at this event in 2025.

Fernandez reached the round of 16 without dropping a set against Han Shi, but she had to recover from 4-1 and 0-40 on serve in the second set and saved seven of eight break points. The opponent had already beaten Alexandra Eala, so this was not a routine second round, and the win sat between a three-set first-round over Ekaterina Alexandrova and her earlier Singapore title. It means she arrives with a shorter match load than Ostapenko, whose previous round went the distance.
- Fernandez trailed 1-4, 0-40 on serve in the second set before winning 6-3 6-4.
- She saved seven of eight break points across the match.
- Han Shi, a Chinese wildcard, had knocked out Alexandra Eala in the previous round.

Fernandez's Singapore title was her first of 2026 and sixth overall, built on wins over Mirra Andreeva and Talia Gibson on the way to a WTA 500 trophy. The immediate follow-up was a first-round loss in Beijing to Kamilla Rakhimova, so her recent form has moved between the two extremes rather than trending steadily. Both events and Wuhan are outdoor hard courts, which makes the swing results directly relevant here.
- Fernandez beat Talia Gibson 7-5 6-0 in the Singapore Open final for her sixth career WTA title and first of 2026.
- Her Singapore run included a quarter-final win over Mirra Andreeva.
- She then lost her Beijing opener 2-6 6-4 3-6 to Kamilla Rakhimova.
