Dominic Stricker #263Switzerland22 – 1Otto Virtanen #107Finland1

Virtanen is the higher-ranked player at No. 107 and the third seed, and he needed two tight sets to get past Remy Bertola. That 7-5, 7-5 scoreline means he reached the round of 16 having been pushed to the closing stages on these courts, with no comfortable margin behind him. He stays on indoor hard, where most of his recent winning form has come. The straight-sets win is a modest positive marker rather than a dominant statement about his level.

Stricker is ranked No. 263 and entered the Roanne main draw as a late addition, making him the lower-ranked, unseeded player in this round-of-16 match. He won his first-round match 6-2, 6-3 without facing a break point, a clean serving day that carried him through in straight sets. The immediate question is whether that hold of serve repeats against a seeded opponent. One match without a break point is a limited sample of that serving form.

Virtanen is the third seed and higher-ranked player here, and his most recent five-set match came against a top-25 opponent.

Virtanen took two tiebreak sets off a top-25 opponent before losing the last three, evidence he can compete above the level his No. 107 ranking implies. The score also swung hard within one match, from two sets up to 0-6 and 2-6 down. That was a best-of-five format, so it says more about his ceiling than about a best-of-three round of 16.

Stricker is the unseeded, lower-ranked player at No. 263 and leans on a first serve that has held up well in this sample.

A 78.8% first-serve points won rate is a high figure for a player ranked No. 263, and it sits alongside a 10-5 record in the 15-match window. The sample is small and spans more than one event, so it is a marker rather than a settled rate. It is still the clearest reason a player ranked well below his opponent can hold serve well enough to stay in this round of 16.
