Luca Nardi #251Italy22 – 0Lorenzo Carboni #562Italy0

This is the clearest measure of the form Nardi brings to Olbia, and it shows a hard-court season in which he has won fewer than half his matches. The decline matters for the fixture because his ranking is now close enough to Carboni's that the gap between a former top-70 player and a Challenger wildcard is much smaller than the names suggest. His first-round win over Holmgren, ranked No. 236, is a better result than much of that record, so the season line may understate his current level. Challenger form is volatile and one week can shift the picture, but through early October his results have been those of a mid-200s player.

This is the result that earns Carboni his second-round meeting with Nardi and a first look at the later stages of a Challenger 125. McDonald retired in the opening game of the third set, so the win carries a caveat even though Carboni had already taken a set from a player ranked inside the top 200. It matters because his 2026 season has been almost entirely on clay, and beating a higher-ranked opponent on a hard court is the strongest evidence that he can compete at this level. The result is still one match, and it does not show he can sustain that level across a full week.

Nardi's hard-court sample in this window leans on recovery: one loss and one three-set win, both after dropping the opening set.

Both of Nardi's tracked hard-court matches in this window began with a lost first set and were won comfortably by his opponent, so a fast start from Carboni would fit the recent record. The sample is only two matches and excludes one retirement, and Nardi did recover to win one of them in three sets.
