Daria Yesypchuk #488Ukraine00 – 2Carole Monnet #210France2

Yesypchuk, ranked No. 488, had to win two matches to enter the main draw, and the second was a three-setter against Lidia Encheva completed . That places her among the qualifiers who earned a place in this field rather than entering directly, and it gives her recent competitive time at the venue. The Encheva win required a comeback after a 3-6 first set, so a scoreline summary would not capture the route.

The two players arrive with opposite recent loads: Yesypchuk has played twice, including a three-set qualifying final, while Monnet has not competed since losing her Samsun opener . Match sharpness against recovery is the relevant trade-off for this fixture, particularly because Yesypchuk's qualifying final went the distance the day before the scheduled 13 October start. This is a schedule comparison only and does not establish that either player will be physically better on the day.

Monnet arrives as the higher-ranked player but with a losing record in the tracked window.

The ranking gap to Yesypchuk is 278 places, yet Monnet's recorded results do not show that margin. Aggregate serve, return and point totals are absent for her window, so the losing record is the main available signal, and it points away from a comfortable favourite's performance. The 14-match sample is small, and her six most recent listed matches were all on hard courts.

Yesypchuk, the lower-ranked qualifier, has leaned on return pressure more than on holding serve.

Her return has created and taken chances at a good rate, converting 49.7% of break points, while her own serve has surrendered 56% of the break points she faced. With Monnet's recent results offering little guide, that split suggests Yesypchuk's games may swing on both sides of the scoreboard. The 15-match window is a small sample, and Monnet's comparable return numbers are unavailable.
