Context last updated 12 Oct 2026, 00:09 · Europe/Bucharest

Olbia's final qualifying round offers a Challenger 125 main-draw place, with Kuzmanov (No. 367) facing Cerny (No.

705). Kuzmanov's 3-1 hard-court window, six sets to two with no tiebreaks, makes him the likely winner, though four matches is a thin base and Cerny has no tracked hard-court evidence. The 1.15 on Kuzmanov asks for more than that record supports, so no reviewed price is worthwhile.

Context

A place in the main draw of a Challenger 125 is the prize, so both players are competing for ranking points and prize money that a qualifying defeat would not bring. Their routes into the round were different: Kuzmanov closed out Ryan Peniston in straight sets, while Cerny's opening match ran into a third set before Vadym Ursu retired, leaving Kuzmanov the shorter day on court. That workload gap is modest and does not by itself separate the two, but it is the clearest asymmetry between players who reached the same stage on the same day.
- Kuzmanov beat Ryan Peniston 6-4 6-3 in the opening Olbia qualifying round
- Cerny led Vadym Ursu 6-7(4) 6-3 0-1 when Ursu retired after a medical timeout
- The winner of the 12 October match advances to the main draw of the Challenger 125

Kuzmanov is the higher-ranked player and the only one of the two with tracked hard-court matches in this window.
The sample is small, but it is the only tracked hard-court evidence either player brings to this qualifying decider: Kuzmanov won six of eight sets, no set went to a tiebreak and three of the four matches finished in straight sets. The counterweight is the third match of the run, a 4-6 2-6 loss to Harold Mayot on 11 September 2026. Four matches is not enough to settle his current hard-court level.
- Four completed hard-court best-of-3 matches tracked between 8 September and 11 October 2026: 3 wins, 1 loss
- Six sets won and two lost in those matches, with zero tiebreaks and 18.75 games per match on average
Training with a 24-time major champion is preparation context rather than a competitive result, so it does not indicate Kuzmanov's form or fitness for this qualifying decider. It does show that the 33-year-old Bulgarian, now ranked No. 367, spent part of his pre-event block hitting with Novak Djokovic in Athens, a higher-level training environment than his ranking implies. No conclusion about his current level or readiness can be drawn from the session itself.
- Kuzmanov practised with Novak Djokovic in Athens in late September 2026
- Kuzmanov described the session as a personal milestone

Cerny reached the deciding round of Palermo qualifying a week earlier and lost it 7-6 in the third, so the margin between him and a Challenger main draw was a tiebreak. That single result does not establish a trend, and conditions differ here: Palermo was played on clay, while the Olbia qualifying rounds have been on hard courts. It nevertheless places his current level close to main-draw standard on the surface that suits him least.
- Cerny lost to Dimitris Sakellaridis 3-6 6-1 7-6(5) in Palermo qualifying
- The defeat came in the deciding round of Palermo qualifying
