Burel is the clear favourite in this WTA 125 clay opener, but Gjorcheska's habit of taking the first set and dragging matches deep gives the outsider a route.

Burel should win, and probably in two sets, yet 1.10 to win the match and 1.36 for a 2-0 finish ask more than her clay record carries. Two prices do offer something: over 2.5 sets at 3.3, and Gjorcheska to win the first set at 4.75.

Context

Burel's September run in Valencia is her most recent competitive week and produced a clay-court title, making it the freshest form reference for this first round. She recovered from losing the opening set to take the final 4-6 6-0 6-2, so the result also shows she closed out a match after a poor start. The beaten finalist, Herrero Linana, is a lower-ranked home player, so the title does not by itself establish a level above the Lisbon field.
- Won the WTA 125 final in Valencia on 20 September 2026, beating Alicia Herrero Linana 4-6 6-0 6-2
- Herrero Linana was contesting her first final at that level

Burel brings the better clay credentials into the first round, built over 13 tracked matches in the second half of 2026.
Burel's clay sample is the strongest current form guide for this first round: 10 wins in 13 matches, 76.7% of sets and 62.3% of games won, and 2-0 scorelines in nine of those 13. That pattern points to sets decided by a break or two rather than long exchanges, and her clay matches average 20.6 games. The sample is 13 matches and includes the Valencia title run, so it is a form reference rather than a forecast of a repeat.
- Burel is 10-3 on clay across 13 tracked matches from 24 July to 20 September 2026, winning 23 of 30 sets (76.7%) and 62.3% of games.
- Nine of those 13 clay matches finished 2-0; three finished 1-2.
- Her clay matches average 20.6 total games and 2.31 sets.
Gjorcheska's clay evidence is stronger at the start of matches than after the opening set.
The split is the clearest feature of Gjorcheska's clay record: she holds her own early, averaging 5.0 first-set games won, then loses second sets by 3.63 games to 5.13. Five of the eight tracked matches went the distance, which is why her clay matches average 23.5 games, well above Burel's 20.6. Her record in those deciders is mixed — four 1-2 defeats and one 2-1 win — so the second set is where the sample is weakest.
- Gjorcheska is 5-3 in first sets and 2-6 in second sets across eight clay matches from 10 June to 14 September 2026.
- She averages 5.0 games won and 4.25 lost in clay first sets, and 3.63 won against 5.13 lost in second sets.
- Five of the eight matches went to a deciding set; her clay matches average 23.5 total games.
This is a 125-level clay-court first round, a tier where ranking gaps compress and lower-ranked players frequently take out higher-ranked opponents. Clay rewards patient baseline construction and longer rallies, matching Gjorcheska's listed surface preference and moving away from Burel's hard-court background. Both players sit outside the top 200, so the daytime clay slot matters as much as the ranking line. Burel's own September results came entirely on clay, so the surface is not a novelty for her either.
- First-round singles match at the Lisboa Belem Open in Lisbon, a WTA 125 event on clay, listed for 12:00 UTC on Campo Lisboa
