Pre-match view

Context last updated 10 Oct 2026, 13:18 · Europe/Bucharest

Khachanov has won five of their six meetings and is the likelier winner, but he needed three hours and 33 minutes to get past Arthur Fery, and Mannarino arrives off a win over a top-10 seed.

The prices that offer something are all on Mannarino: first set at 2.9, second set at 2.9 and the match at 3.5. Under 2.5 sets at 1.45 does not.

Context

Khachanov spent three hours and 33 minutes beating Arthur Fery, recovering from 2-4 down in the deciding set after all three sets went to tie-breaks. That is the longest match in his recent hard-court block and it came immediately before this third-round fixture, so recovery is a live factor. Mannarino, by contrast, has spent far less time on court in Shanghai and dropped only one set. Khachanov's 2026 US Open semi-final run shows he can handle a heavy workload, but the quick turnaround makes early stamina worth watching here.
- Khachanov defeated Fery 7-6(6), 6-7(5), 7-6(2) in three hours and 33 minutes in the Shanghai second round .
- Khachanov trailed 2-4 in the deciding set before taking the final-set tie-break 7-2.
- All three sets of the match went to a tie-break.

Mannarino's 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win over sixth seed Flavio Cobolli is his first top-10 victory since the 2025 US Open and the 12th of his career, and it came at 38 against a player sitting fifth in the ATP Finals race. It matters because it shows Mannarino can still beat a top-10 seed in Shanghai, where he had previously reached the third round only once. Cobolli's defeat was his fourth straight, so the result says as much about the Italian's form as the veteran's level. The obvious limitation is that Khachanov, who has won five of their six meetings, is a different opponent from Cobolli.
- Mannarino, 38 and ranked No. 83, beat sixth seed Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in the Shanghai second round .
- The result was Mannarino's first top-10 win since the 2025 US Open and the 12th of his career.
- World No. 7 Cobolli had arrived in Shanghai fifth in the ATP Finals race.

Khachanov has won five of the six previous meetings, all on hard courts, and the most recent was a 7-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at the 2025 Australian Open. The pattern has held across a decade on the surface they meet on in Shanghai, which is the main reason Mannarino's improved form and the ranking gap do not point cleanly in one direction. Mannarino has one hard-court win over Khachanov to his name, so the record is not one-sided by accident. The evidence is dated, though, because the two have not met since January 2025 and both arrive in different form.
- Their six meetings span 2015 to 2025, all on hard courts, with Khachanov leading 5-1.
- Khachanov beat Mannarino 7-6, 6-3, 6-3 at the Australian Open on 14 January 2025 in 140 minutes.

The 2026 US Open semi-final is the standout result in Khachanov's recent hard-court block and sits behind his seeding in Shanghai. He also beat Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets in Beijing in early October, showing the form carried into the Asian swing before a loss to Hubert Hurkacz. That matters for judging whether the Fery marathon was an isolated wobble or a sign of accumulated fatigue. The US Open result is background to the current level rather than a live condition.
- Khachanov, 30, is a former world No. 8 and 2026 US Open semi-finalist.
- Khachanov beat Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 6-3 in the China Open first round.
