Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 9 Oct 2026, 00:34 · Europe/Bucharest

Mensik is the higher-ranked seed with a 2-0 head-to-head and the bigger serve, but he opens after a bye against a Kecmanovic who has already won on these courts while holding serve throughout.

Mensik winning remains the likeliest outcome. No reviewed price is worthwhile: Mensik to win at 1.3, the first set at 1.36 and a 2-0 win at 1.8 each demand more than the case for them supports.

Context

Kecmanovic won in straight sets while holding serve throughout, and that serving form is the part of his game most likely to carry into a meeting with a top-15 opponent. The result also gives him the quickest possible transition out of round one and onto the same courts for the next round. The quality of opposition rises sharply here, and Kecmanovic had lost four of his previous five completed matches, so one comfortable win over a wildcard outside the top 100 is a thin basis for expecting a repeat.
- Kecmanovic beat Sho Shimabukuro 6-2, 6-4 in the first round, holding serve throughout in a match that lasted 74 minutes.
- The result was the first completed win of the 2026 Shanghai main draw and the first main-draw win by a Serbian player at the event.

Both previous meetings went Mensik's way, and the last one was decided in straight sets on a hard court in Beijing, the same surface and same swing as this fixture. That makes the pairing the clearest existing evidence about how these two games match up, and both results point the same way. Two matches is a small record and neither was played at this venue, so it establishes a pattern rather than a certainty. It remains the most specific match evidence available for this round.
- Mensik leads the head-to-head 2-0.
- Mensik beat Kecmanovic 7-5, 6-4 in Beijing on 26 September 2025 on hard court, in 100 minutes.

The win came in a live Davis Cup tie rather than a routine tour match, and Shelton was the higher-ranked player who had just reached a Grand Slam final, making it the strongest recent result on Mensik's record. It carries a counterweight, because Mensik lost his other singles rubber in the same tie in straight sets to Learner Tien, so his September form in team competition was split rather than dominant. Team events use different scoring and conditions from a Masters 1000, which limits how far the result transfers. It still shows Mensik beating elite hard-court opposition in the weeks before this tournament.
- Mensik beat Ben Shelton 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 on 19 September 2026 in Prague.
- Czechia beat the United States 3-2 after trailing 2-1, and Mensik lost his other singles rubber in straight sets to Learner Tien.
ConfirmedSources checked 8 Oct 2026, 22:13 · Europe/Bucharest
Mensik's first serve has been the dominant shot of his recent hard-court run, and the ace rate means Kecmanovic's return games will often start from behind. The 55.1% break-point save figure is the softer side of that serving profile: when returners do get a look, Mensik has conceded more than he has saved. Kecmanovic will need to convert the few chances he gets.
- Mensik won 78.7% of first-serve points (496 of 630) on hard courts across 13 of his last 15 tracked matches.
- Mensik averaged 10.3 aces per match (134 across 13 hard-court matches) in the same window.
- Mensik saved 55.1% of break points faced (38 of 69) across those 13 hard-court matches.
