Top seed Heide (No. 116) meets countryman Ribeiro (No. 346) for a place in the Antofagasta quarter-finals on clay.

Heide, the Curitiba runner-up, has won 10 of 13 clay matches this season and is the likely winner, though a three-set opener against a qualifier showed he is not untouchable. His 1.15 match price asks too much. The quotes with something to offer are Ribeiro at 4.75 to win and 3.5 to take the second set.

Context

The Curitiba final was Heide's fifth singles match in six days, and he followed it with a three-set opener in Antofagasta, so the week supplies both the form reference and a real workload behind his top-seed status. His four wins to reach the final came in straight sets on clay. The final itself was one-sided at 6-1 6-4, so the value of the run lies in the ranking gain and the volume of clay-court matches rather than in a close defeat.
- Heide lost the Curitiba Challenger final 6-1 6-4 to Guido Iván Justo .
- He won four straight-sets matches on clay to reach that final.
- The runner-up finish lifted him six places to a career-best No. 116 with 531 points, 94 points outside the top 100.

Heide has set the South American clay swing through late November 2026 as his route to a top-100 place and direct entry to the 2027 Australian Open, which gives this Challenger week a specific ranking purpose. He is the highest-ranked player in the Antofagasta draw, so a deep run is measured against that season target. His account of nerves and a poor level in the Curitiba final is his own reading of one match rather than an established pattern.
- Heide said his Curitiba final performance was poor and that nerves affected him.
- He plans to play South American Challengers through the last week of November 2026 to pursue a top-100 ranking and direct entry to the 2027 Australian Open.
ConfirmedSources checked 7 Oct 2026, 06:23 · Europe/Bucharest
Heide is the higher-ranked, top-seeded player, and nearly all of his recent matches have come on this surface.
Heide has converted most of his clay sets and nine of the 13 matches ended without a third set, which points to a shorter contest here. The counterweight is that two of those 13 were straight-set defeats for him, and the sample covers only about five weeks of Challenger-level clay.
- 13 clay best-of-3 matches tracked from 31 August to 6 October 2026: 10 wins, three losses.
- He has won 21 of 28 sets on clay (75%); nine scorelines were 2-0, with one 2-1, two 0-2 and one 1-2.
- First sets won 10-3 and second sets won 10-3; only one of the 13 matches contained a tiebreak.
Ribeiro is the lower-ranked outsider at No. 346 and needs a close, drawn-out match to stay with the top seed.
Ribeiro has split these 15 clay matches 7-8, and 22 games per match with four tiebreaks shows his sets often reach the closing stages. Against a favourite who has lost only three of 13 clay matches, a tight opening set is one route into the match. He has lost eight of 15 first sets, so a slow start remains a real risk.
- 15 clay best-of-3 matches tracked from 6 July to 6 October 2026: seven wins, eight losses.
- Average total games per match 22.0; average 2.2 sets per match.
- Four of the 15 matches contained a tiebreak; first sets won 7-8, second sets won 8-7.
