Pre-match view

Context last updated 7 Oct 2026, 21:50 · Europe/Bucharest

Kasidit Samrej has the better recent hard-court form but sits 94 places below Fajing Sun in the rankings, and Sun has lost the opening set in nine of his last 14 matches.

Samrej is the likelier winner, and three quoted prices — 2.4 to win, 2.3 to take the opening set, 4.25 to win in straight sets — pay enough to be worth considering. The 1.5 and 1.55 on Sun ask for more than his recent record supports.

Context

Kasidit Samrej, ranked 397, has been closing matches in two sets far more often than not.
Samrej's hard-court matches in this window average 2.2 sets and 20.9 games; eight of 15 ended as 2-0 wins, so he has been finished quickly more often than extended. That gives a two-set outcome a live route in this second-round match. Four 0-2 defeats and one 1-2 loss sit in the same sample, so the tendency is real but not binding. The evidence covers 15 matches over roughly eight weeks.
- Samrej's hard-court setEvidence covers 15 matches from 11 Aug to 6 Oct 2026, averaging 2.2 sets and 20.9 total games per match.
- Scorelines in that sample: eight 2-0 wins, two 2-1 wins, four 0-2 defeats and one 1-2 defeat.
Fajing Sun, ranked 303, has regularly started matches from behind on hard courts.
Sun's first sets average 4.7 games won against 5.1 lost, and he has been behind after the opening set in nine of 14 matches. Against an opponent who has won 9 of 15 first sets, that points to Sun starting from behind, which is why the opening set is one of the three reviewed selections on this match. He has still won seven of those 14 matches overall, so slow starts have not been fatal. Seven of the 14 went to a deciding set.
- Sun's 14 hard-court matches from 5 Aug to 29 Sep 2026: 5-9 in first sets and 6-8 in second sets.
- His first sets average 4.7 games won and 5.1 lost; the 14 matches average 2.5 sets and 25.7 games.
- Overall in that window Sun is 7-7, with five 0-2 defeats and seven matches going to a deciding set.
Fajing Sun, ranked 303, took only two games against a top-100 opponent in his most one-sided recent result.
Sun won just two games in that match, which stands as a marker of how he has fared when the level rises above the ranked-180 range of his recent wins. Kasidit Samrej sits at 397, well outside that bracket, so the Safiullin result sets a ceiling rather than the expected level of this second-round match. It sits inside an otherwise even 7-7 hard-court stretch for Sun, not a collapse. The evidence is one match and says nothing about Sun's fitness or current condition.
- 24 Sep 2026: Sun lost 2-6 0-6 to Roman Safiullin, then ranked 79, winning two games in a two-set match.
- That result is part of Sun's 14-match hard-court sample running from 5 Aug to 29 Sep 2026, in which he is 7-7.
