Second round at the Antofagasta Challenger, where ranking meets clay form: Hardt is No. 281 but needed three sets to win his opener; Meligeni Alves, No. 453, is 8-2 on clay and dismissed the sixth seed in 81 minutes.

Meligeni Alves is the likelier winner, probably in straight sets. At 1.6 his price asks for more than this matchup supports, and Hardt at 2.2 does not get there either, so neither quote is worth taking.

Context

Meligeni Alves is ranked No. 453 and beat the highest seed in his section, the No. 200-ranked Varillas, without dropping a set in 81 minutes. That result is the main reason the ranking gap to Hardt reads less one-sided than the numbers suggest, and it comes directly after a first-round exit to Gustavo Heide in the previous tournament. The specific limitation is that Varillas turned 31 that day and is defending ranking points, so the win is a statement about Meligeni's current level rather than a like-for-like comparison with Hardt.
- Win over sixth seed Juan Pablo Varillas 6-3 6-1 in the first round
- Match lasted one hour and 21 minutes
- Meligeni escaped the three break points Varillas held
- Varillas was playing on his 31st birthday

Hardt's route into the round of 16 cost him three sets against a player ranked No. 323, while Meligeni Alves needed only 81 minutes in his opener. That is the clearest workload difference in this fixture, partly offset by Hardt having roughly a day more recovery between 5 and 7 October. The specific limitation is that Hardt won the deciding set 7-5 rather than fading in it, so the longer match reflects a contested opponent more than any evident physical cost.
- Hardt beat Gonzalo Villanueva 7-5 3-6 7-5
- The match was decided in a third set at 7-5
- Villanueva is ranked No. 323

Hardt's clay split is unusually lopsided: he averages 5.3 games won and 4.6 lost in first sets, then 4.2 won and 5.0 lost in second sets across the same 14 matches.
That pattern keeps this match live for a while and gives Meligeni Alves, who has won seven of 10 second sets on clay, the clearer route to a straight-sets finish.
- Nine first sets won and five lost across 14 completed clay matches from 17 June to 5 October 2026
- Five second sets won and nine lost across the same 14 matches
- Hardt averaged 5.3 games won and 4.6 lost in first sets, and 4.2 won and 5.0 lost in second sets
- Three of the 14 clay matches featured a first-set tiebreak
He has won seven of 10 first sets and seven of 10 second sets in that window, and his clay matches have averaged 21.1 total games.
The lower-ranked player has been winning sets by clear margins rather than grinding them out, which makes a short match the likelier shape even though Hardt's clay matches have averaged 24.3 games.
- Six of 10 clay matches finished 2-0 and two went to a deciding set between 26 July and 6 October 2026
- Seven of 10 first sets and seven of 10 second sets won in the same window
- Only one of the 10 matches featured a tiebreak
- His clay matches averaged 21.1 total games
