Context last updated 2 Oct 2026, 03:06 · Europe/Bucharest

Second-seeded Barrios Vera has reached this Curitiba quarter-final without dropping a set, while Pucinelli de Almeida has needed three sets in both rounds.

Barrios Vera is the likelier winner, and at 1.8 his match price and 1.8 to take the first set both hold up, as does 4.5 on Pucinelli de Almeida winning 2-1. The 1.9 quotes on Pucinelli de Almeida to win the match or the first set are best left alone.

Context

The two quarterfinalists arrive with markedly different match loads: Barrios Vera has conceded six games across four sets, while Pucinelli de Almeida has played six sets, two of them decided in a third. On a slow clay court where rallies are long, that gap matters most if this quarterfinal itself runs deep, because the player who has spent less time on court keeps the larger reserve late in the third set. Both players had one full day between the second round and this match, which limits how far the difference can compound.
- Barrios Vera, ranked 135, is the second seed at the Curitiba Challenger.
- Barrios Vera beat Juan Bautista Torres 6-2 6-3 in the second round after a 6-1 6-1 first-round win.
- Pucinelli de Almeida beat Joao Lucas Reis da Silva 6-3 4-6 6-3 in the second round to reach the quarterfinals.
- Pucinelli de Almeida's first round finished 3-6 6-3 6-0 against Paulo Saraiva dos Santos.

Pucinelli de Almeida spent mid-September on national-team duty in Europe, competing on indoor hard in the Davis Cup tie with Switzerland before returning to clay in Brazil for Curitiba. The switch back from indoor hard to slow clay inside a two-week window is a genuine adjustment, and the tie put him in a higher-profile competitive setting than his usual Challenger circuit. His own rubber went to a deciding tie-break, so the outing was a competitive match rather than a formality.
- Pucinelli de Almeida lost to Remy Bertola in a deciding tie-break in the September 2026 Davis Cup tie.
- Brazil won the tie 3-1.
- The match was played on indoor hard court.
ConfirmedSources checked 2 Oct 2026, 03:05 · Europe/Bucharest
Pucinelli de Almeida has won four of those eight matches in three sets and lost three in three, so the long-match habit has gone both ways rather than pointing one direction.
If this quarter-final is competitive, the record points to a stretched, game-heavy contest rather than a quick finish, because his clay sets have mostly been settled by breaks and only two of the eight matches featured a tiebreak. Barrios Vera's two straight-set wins in Curitiba are the counterweight, and eight matches is a small sample.
- From 31 July to 30 September 2026, Pucinelli de Almeida's eight tracked clay matches produced four 2-1 wins, three 1-2 losses and one 2-0 win.
- Those eight clay matches averaged 2.875 sets and 28.25 games, and two of them featured a tiebreak.
The scoreline shows Pucinelli de Almeida staying with a higher-ranked clay opponent into a tight third set rather than being overrun.
It is the closest recent evidence in his tracked clay record for how he handles a player near Barrios Vera's ranking, and it reads as a narrow loss. It is a single match from 22 September 2026, though, and Barrios Vera has won both Curitiba rounds in straight sets, so the comparison should not be stretched.
- On 22 September 2026, Pucinelli de Almeida lost to Hugo Dellien, ranked 128, 7-5 4-6 4-6 on clay.
