Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 29 Sep 2026, 19:25 · Europe/Bucharest

Snigur is higher-ranked and leads the head-to-head 2-0, but her last recorded match was 31 August while Kawa has two qualifying wins in Beijing.

Snigur should win, and the 1.12 on her offers nothing. The prices worth taking are on Kawa or a long match: Kawa +4.5 games at 2.6, Kawa to win at 6, Kawa to win the first set at 4 and the second at 4.25, Kawa 2-1 at 9, over 2.5 sets at 3 and over 20.5 games at 2.3.

Context

Kawa arrives with two competitive wins in two days on the hard courts in Beijing, which gives her a live read on the conditions at the venue. Snigur, the higher-ranked player at No. 46, has not played a singles match since her first-round exit at the US Open on 31 August, so the two come in with opposite amounts of recent singles tennis behind them. Kawa also had to win her way in without ranking protection, while Snigur was already placed in the draw awaiting a qualifier. Qualifying rounds are best-of-three with no seeding safety net, so the value of that workload lies in rhythm and court familiarity rather than in any guaranteed level.
- Kawa beat Valeria Savinykh 6-3 7-5 in the final qualifying round
- Two qualifying wins in two days on the outdoor hard courts in Beijing
- The first qualifying round against Rinko Matsuda went to three sets
ConfirmedSources checked 29 Sep 2026, 19:22 · Europe/Bucharest
Five of Kawa's six completed hard-court matches in this window reached a deciding set, and three of those were 1-2 losses, so the pattern is close, drawn-out matches rather than one-sided ones. The sample covers six matches from 3 August to 29 September, which makes it a recent run rather than a settled long-term rate.
- Across six completed hard-court matches from 3 August to 29 September 2026, Kawa's set scorelines were 2-0 once, 2-1 twice and 1-2 three times.
- Her six hard-court matches averaged 28.3 total games and 2.83 sets.
- She has one 2-0 win and no 0-2 losses in that six-match sample.
Four of Snigur's five hard-court wins in this window came in straight sets, and only two of her eight matches reached a third set, so her recent hard-court matches have tended to end without a long decider. The sample runs from 20 July to 31 August, which is the most recent form available rather than a statement about how this first round will be shaped.
- In eight completed hard-court matches from 20 July to 31 August 2026, Snigur's scorelines were 2-0 four times, 2-1 once, 0-2 twice and 1-2 once.
- Her hard-court matches averaged 21.0 total games and 2.25 sets.
- She won the first set in six of those eight hard-court matches.
Kawa's singles career has been built largely below WTA 1000 level, with tour appearances coming in smaller events and in Grand Slam qualifying. At 33 she has reached the main draw of a WTA 1000 event for the first time, and she did so by winning two qualifying matches rather than through a protected or direct entry. The opponent changes the occasion further: Snigur is a direct entrant at No. 46 rather than another qualifier, so Kawa's step up in tier is tested in her opening match.
- Beijing is Kawa's first WTA 1000 singles main draw
- Kawa is 33 and holds a ranking of No. 133
- The place in the main draw was earned through qualifying rather than a direct entry
