Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 27 Sep 2026, 22:23 · Europe/Bucharest

Beijing qualifying opens with Bai, ranked 234, the likely winner over Hodzic, 278 — but her 1.22 price asks for an 82% win rate that a 7-5 hard-court window does not support, and she has lost the opening set in seven of twelve matches.

Straight sets are the more usual route. Hodzic at 4.25 is the only quoted price here that offers anything.

Context

Bai is the higher-ranked player at 234 and owns the larger hard-court sample, 12 completed matches from 8 May to 17 September 2026.
If Bai starts slowly again, as she has in seven of those 12 matches, Hodzic gets a foothold in the opening set before Bai's stronger second sets take over. Hodzic's own three-match hard-court sample limits how far that can be trusted.
- Bai hard-court set 1: 5 wins, 7 losses across 12 completed matches (8 May–17 Sep 2026)
- Bai hard-court set 2: 8 wins, 4 losses across the same 12 matches
- Bai set 1 average: 4.42 games won, 5.58 lost; set 2 average: 5.08 won, 3.67 lost
That result is the last completed match in Bai's hard-court window before this Beijing qualifying round.
It shows Bai's hard-court form can slip against lower-ranked opposition, which matters in a match where she is the favourite. One defeat does not establish a pattern, and she still holds the better hard-court record of the two.
- 17 Sep 2026: L 4-6 7-5 5-7 vs Sijia Wei (rank 459), 16 games won, 18 lost, indoor hard
- Bai hard-court window: 7-5 in 12 completed matches, 8 May–17 Sep 2026
Hodzic's six most recent completed matches span 27 August to 22 September 2026, five of them on clay.
Her recent run has been close but losing — four defeats in those six matches — and that 32-game three-setter suggests her hard-court sets may stay tight against Bai, even though the second serve remains a vulnerability.
- 22 Sep 2026: L 4-6 7-5 4-6 vs Elena Malygina (rank 287), 15 games won, 17 lost
- Hodzic won 2 of her last 6 completed matches (27 Aug–22 Sep 2026), losing four
- Five of those six matches were played on clay (27 Aug–15 Sep 2026), where Hodzic went 2-3
Bai's 12 hard-court matches in this window produced five 2-0 wins, two 2-1 wins, four 0-2 losses and one 1-2 loss.
If Bai wins, straight sets are the more likely route based on this window, though she has also been beaten in straight sets four times across the same 12 matches. Her average of 2.25 sets per hard-court match is consistent with that.
- Bai hard-court scorelines: 2-0 in five wins, 2-1 in two wins, 0-2 in four losses, 1-2 in one loss (12 matches, 8 May–17 Sep 2026)
- Bai hard-court matches with a tiebreak: 2 of 12
- Bai hard-court total sets average: 2.25
