Context last updated 27 Sep 2026, 15:17 · Europe/Bucharest

In Porto qualifying, Kravchenko's ranking and Plovdiv title say he should beat Marques, but he has lost both his hard-court matches this season in straight sets while Marques has won 10 of 13 on the surface.

Kravchenko to win is the sensible read, with a straight-set finish the strongest of the low-confidence forecasts. No priced selection here is worth taking.

Context

Kravchenko spent the days immediately before Porto in Nicosia, where he won both singles rubbers to decide Ukraine's Davis Cup tie against Cyprus. That gives him a different preparation profile from Marques, who has not competed since mid-September, and it places international travel and two competitive hard-court matches directly before this first-round match. Both wins came in straight sets, so he arrives with match sharpness rather than rust. The relevant factor is workload and travel rather than any reported physical problem.
- Kravchenko beat Fotios Fotiades 6-4, 6-1 and Melios Efstathiou 6-0, 6-1 in the tie in Nicosia on 20-.
- Ukraine won the World Group II tie 3-1 and advanced to a World Group I play-off in February 2027, with the opponent to be determined.
- The tie finished six days before this match in Porto.

His first ATP Challenger title is the best result of his career and shows he can convert a full week at this level, which is directly relevant against an opponent ranked more than 300 places below him. The counterpoint is the level and the follow-up: Plovdiv was a 50-point Challenger, and in the event he played straight afterwards he lost in straight sets to Radu Albot. The title marks a clear step up without yet settling how consistently he performs week to week.
- Kravchenko won his maiden ATP Challenger singles title, beating Yanaki Milev 6-0, 6-2 in the Plovdiv final.
- It was his first Challenger final, and he did not drop serve in the match.
- The title came at the 50-point Challenger level, and his next completed event ended in a straight-sets loss to Radu Albot.

A year out injured that left him unranked at the start of 2026 gives the current run its meaning: two M25 finals in a month have taken him inside the top 700 and into a Challenger main draw at home. The step up is substantial, because both finals were at M25 level and he lost both, and his recent wins have all come against players ranked outside the top 350. That gap in opposition level is the main reason the ranking difference understates the challenge he faces here.
- Marques started the 2026 season unranked because of a year-long injury absence.
- He reached consecutive ITF M25 singles finals, at Idanha-a-Nova in August 2026 and Sintra in September 2026, finishing runner-up in both.
- The results were reported as guaranteeing his debut inside the top 700.

Kravchenko is the higher-ranked player here, but his 2026 hard-court evidence rests on a two-match sample that went entirely against him.
Both matches came between 8 and 23 September 2026 and neither produced a set for him, so his most recent completed form on this surface is thin and negative. Two matches is a small base, and his ranking and his Plovdiv title still make him the likelier winner, but nothing he has shown on hard courts this season backs a comfortable margin over a player ranked No. 651.
- Both of Kravchenko's completed hard-court matches of 2026, on 8 and 23 September, ended in 0-2 set scorelines, 0 sets won from 4.
- Across those two matches he averaged 3.5 games won in set 1 against 6 lost, and 3.5 in set 2 against 6.5 lost.
- Total games averaged 19.5 per match, and neither match contained a tiebreak.
