Context last updated 25 Sep 2026, 03:28 · Europe/Bucharest

Halys, ranked 49th, meets Safiullin in the Hangzhou second round with the bigger serve but without a match at this venue, while Safiullin won his opener 6-2 6-0 on these courts.

Halys to win is the likelier result, and his 2.1 price is the best of four that carry an edge, alongside over 2.5 sets at 2.2, Halys 2-1 at 4.25 and over 24.5 games at 2.0. Safiullin at 1.73 does not hold up.

Context

That match in Quebec City on 18 September is Halys's only competitive tennis between the US Open and this event, leaving him eight days without a match and a long haul from Canada to eastern China before he steps onto the Hangzhou courts for the first time. He double-faulted six times in that outing and lost the deciding set 6-3, the most recent concrete read on both his serving and how he closes out a tight third set. His opponent, by contrast, has already completed a match at this venue, so Halys opens cold against someone with on-site rhythm.
- Halys lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime and Arthur Rinderknech lost to Liam Draxl as France fell 2-0 behind on day one of the Davis Cup qualifier in Quebec City.
- Auger-Aliassime beat Halys 7-6(5) 4-6 6-3 with 12 aces, profiting from six Halys double faults.

Safiullin had not won a match since 20 August, losing to Hubert Hurkacz, Hugo Grenier and Carlos Alcaraz, and he had not competed at all since the US Open on 31 August. The 6-2 6-0 result gives him a completed match on the Hangzhou hard courts two days before this meeting and shows he can close out an opponent quickly, but Sun is ranked outside the top 300, so it is only a partial answer to whether the five-week gap in winning form has been closed against tour-level opposition.
- Safiullin beat Fajing Sun 6-2 6-0 in the opening round of the Hangzhou Open.
- Safiullin arrived in Hangzhou without recent match play, his previous match being a straight-sets US Open defeat to Carlos Alcaraz.
ConfirmedSources checked 25 Sep 2026, 03:26 · Europe/Bucharest
Halys's most substantial recent performance is that five-set loss on 3 September to the man who then won the tournament, a match he extended past four sets and into a decider. It is the clearest evidence of his hard-court level in a month that otherwise produced a straight-sets defeat to Benjamin Bonzi and a three-set loss to Felix Auger-Aliassime. The qualification is that he still lost it, and his hard-court sample around that result is level at four wins and four defeats in eight matches.
- Zverev won the 2026 US Open, beating Ben Shelton 6-3 7-6(2) 5-7 6-2 in the final.
- Zverev needed five sets to get past both Lorenzo Sonego and Quentin Halys in the early rounds before winning the title.
ConfirmedSources checked 25 Sep 2026, 03:26 · Europe/Bucharest
That run is why a player ranked No. 102 is not a routine lower-ranked opponent here: Safiullin came through three qualifying rounds and then beat Andrey Rublev in a fifth-set tie-break and Joao Fonseca in straight sets before losing to Novak Djokovic. It followed a 2025 season that ended at the US Open because of injury, so it established that he had returned to a level capable of beating top-30 players. The caveat is that all of it came on grass and finished roughly twelve weeks before this hard-court match, and his hard-court form since then is mixed at three wins and three defeats.
- Safiullin's summer included a run from Wimbledon qualifying through to the fourth round.
- Safiullin beat Andrey Rublev 6-4 6-7(6) 3-6 6-3 7-6(12) in the first round and Joao Fonseca in the third before a fourth-round loss to Novak Djokovic.
