Michika Ozeki #653Japan22 – 1Yidi Yang #393China1

Yang won her two most recent completed matches in straight sets on indoor hard courts, then lost 3-6 3-6 to Sijia Wei on 18 September 2026.

Those wins are the strongest current evidence behind Yang's 6-8 record across her last 14 tracked completed matches, but both came against opponents ranked outside the top 550. Ozeki, at 653, is comparable opposition, so the form line gives Yang an edge without separating the two players by much. Yang has no tracked carpet matches, so there is no surface record to lean on either way.

Ozeki's record is poor, but the game count shows she stays in sets instead of being swept aside.

Competitive game totals across a 15-match sample put Ozeki closer to her opponents than a 3-12 record implies, which matters in a first-round match against a player ranked 393. The counterweight is that she has turned little of that into wins, and she has no recorded carpet form to show how the surface suits her. Set conversion is the weak point: 12 of 37 sets won in the sample.

Yang's most recent outing came five days before this Nanao first round, following a dense stretch of three completed matches from 15 to 18 September 2026.

The schedule is a plain workload fact, not evidence of fatigue, and one retired match is excluded from her tracked sample, which limits what the recent record says about her current condition. That defeat also came against a higher-ranked opponent than the two she beat, so it reads as much as a level check as a dip. She has five days between that match and this one.
