Noguchi's Guangzhou quarter-final was his ninth at Challenger level this season and came on the same Chinese hard-court swing that leads into Hangzhou. He won two matches there, including a three-set comeback against Kaichi Uchida, before losing to Pavel Kotov in straight sets. The run gives him a longer recent block of hard-court matches than Svrcina, with the straight-set quarter-final loss marking where that run ended.
