Context last updated 18 Sep 2026, 20:54 · Europe/Bucharest

Rinderknech is a heavy favourite to win (79% probability) given his ranking and serve superiority, but his tendency to play long matches makes straight-sets bets risky.

Best value is on Rinderknech -3.5 game handicap at 1.73, with additional edges on Over 18.5 aces and Over 5.5 double faults.

Context

Rinderknech, 32, is the higher-ranked player here at 196cm; across his last 15 matches he hit 247 aces and won 80.5% of first-serve points. Draxl, 205, is a 185cm Canadian whose recent serve numbers are much lower, despite a 9-6 hard-court record in the same window.
The match turns on whether Draxl can stop Rinderknech earning free points on serve: Rinderknech won 80.5% of first-serve points and saved 69.7% of break points over his last 15 matches, while Draxl saved just 48.2% of his. The counterweight is Rinderknech's own return, at 34% of return points won and 37.4% of break points converted, so Draxl's service games can still hold if he keeps his first-serve rate near 64%.
- Rinderknech's last-15 window: 16.5 aces per match, 80.5% first-serve points won and 69.7% of break points saved (15 matches tracked).
- On hard court only, Rinderknech's sample is 7 matches: 14 aces per match, 80.3% first-serve points won and 65.9% of break points saved.
- Draxl's last-15 window: 3.9 aces per match, 70.6% first-serve points won, 41.3% return points won and 48.2% of break points saved (15 matches tracked).
- Rinderknech's break-point conversion is 37.4% (40/107) and his return points won is 34%, so his own return games have produced limited pressure.
Draxl, 205, has played his whole last-15 window on hard courts, going 9-6. Rinderknech, 32, has split his between hard, clay and grass, going 7-8 overall and 4-3 on hard.
Rinderknech's overall record is worse, but six of his defeats in that window came against Medvedev (6), Djokovic (12), Nakashima (16), Tsitsipas (44), Baez (51) and Cerundolo (53). Draxl's nine wins came mostly against players ranked 191 or lower, so the 173-place ranking gap is only partly reflected in the two records; on hard alone Rinderknech won 57.1% of his seven matches.
- Draxl's last-15 record is 9-6 (60%), all on hard courts, with seven of the nine wins coming against opponents ranked 191 or lower.
- Rinderknech's last-15 record is 7-8 (46.7%), and his hard-court split in that window is 4-3 with 53.8% of games won.
- Rinderknech's recent defeats include Medvedev (6), Djokovic (12), Nakashima (16), Tsitsipas (44), Baez (51) and Cerundolo (53).
- Draxl's most recent match was a 4-6 7-5 7-6(7) loss to Tristan Schoolkate (165) on 28 August.
This is a Davis Cup World Group second-round qualifying tie on hard court in Canada, scored as a team event and played best-of-three. Draxl (205) is the home player; Rinderknech (32) represents France in this match.
Team-tie scoring and a home crowd change the usual framing of a 173-place ranking gap, though the crowd does not change who serves. Both players have been idle since the US Open, Draxl since 28 August and Rinderknech since 4 September, so early-match rhythm is uncertain for both rather than a clear advantage for either.
- Tournament listing: Davis Cup World Group, Q2, CAN-FRA, hard court in Canada, best-of-three, Round 13.
- Ranking gap: Draxl at No. 205 against Rinderknech at No. 32.
- Rinderknech's last match was 4 September, a 6-4 6-4 6-4 loss to Daniil Medvedev (6) at the US Open; Draxl's last match was 28 August.
