Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 30 Aug 2026, 22:03 · Europe/Bucharest

Gombos is the clear favorite with superior ranking, clay pedigree, and serve stats, but the 1.02 match-winner odds offer no value.

The best betting angle is Over 21.5 total games at 5.25, which has a 43-point edge, while the set 2 winner market on Gombos at 2.10 also presents value. Avoid the 2-0 set betting and Over 2.5 sets, as both are overpriced traps.

Context

Gombos, 35, is a veteran Slovak ranked 361 with a career-high of No. 80 and extensive clay experience.
His 12-3 clay record in the last 15 matches includes wins over players ranked 220-308, while De Marchi's 11-4 run has come mostly against unranked or lower-ranked opponents. Gombos also leads in first-serve points won (73% vs 63.6%) and break points saved (71.7% vs 54.9%), suggesting he can control rallies better on this surface.
- Gombos last 15 on clay: 12-3 record, 67.6% sets won, 58.8% games won.
- De Marchi last 15 on clay: 11-4 record, 70.6% sets won, 55.9% games won.
- Gombos first-serve points won 73% vs De Marchi 63.6%; break points saved 71.7% vs 54.9%.
- Gombos recent wins include opponents ranked 220, 240, 273, 308; De Marchi's wins mostly against unranked or 800+ ranked players.
De Marchi, an Italian ranked 687, has a career return points won of 46% and has been effective on clay this season.
Gombos lands only 56.2% of first serves in his last 15 matches, and De Marchi's superior return numbers could create break opportunities. However, Gombos saves break points at a high 71.7% rate, so De Marchi will need to convert efficiently.
- De Marchi return points won 45.9% vs Gombos 43.2% in last 15.
- Gombos first serve in 56.2% in last 15.
- Gombos break points saved 71.7% in last 15.
De Marchi, ranked No. 687, won his first ITF title in Serbia in August 2026.
That title shows he is competing regularly and has recent winning experience, but it came against lower-level opposition and does not change the gap in clay form and ranking that Gombos holds.
- The August title was his first at ITF level.
- Stored recent sample: 3 wins from 5 tracked matches.
- A tracked match on 2026-08-27T13:02:00.000Z against Aljaz Jeran ended by retirement; the stored result was W.

Markets to Avoid

High-risk markets where price or context leaves too little cushion.

De Marchi's recent form and clay stats are competitive, but the odds overstate his chances against a much higher-ranked opponent.
