Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 29 Aug 2026, 22:10 · Europe/Bucharest

Vales is overvalued on clay despite strong hard-court form; Manukyan's clay experience makes the match closer than odds suggest.

Avoid backing Vales at 1.25, and consider over 21.5 total games or Vales 2-1 in set betting as better value.

Context

Vales, 588th, is a right-hander who has played mostly on hard courts this season and reached the quarter-finals of a hard-court Challenger last week.
Vales's recent hard-court success may not translate directly to clay, where he has won only 1 of his last 4 matches. Manukyan's recent clay losses include a retirement, but his overall clay record this year is 6-6, so the surface edge is not clear-cut.
- Vales is 7-2 on hard courts in his last 9 matches, with wins over players ranked 367, 614, and 800.
- Manukyan is 1-3 in his last 4 matches, all on clay, including a retirement loss on July 2.
- Vales is 1-3 on clay in his last 4 matches, with losses to players ranked 361, 417, and 525.
Manukyan, unranked, has played 11 of his last 15 matches on clay and relies on a strong first serve.
On clay, Manukyan's first-serve effectiveness is slightly lower than on hard courts, and his return game is weaker, which could give Vales more opportunities if he can extend rallies. However, Manukyan's break-point save rate is 66.7% on clay, so he may still hold serve under pressure.
- Manukyan's first-serve points won: 69.6% on hard (4 matches) vs 66.8% on clay (9 matches).
- Manukyan's return points won: 40.1% on hard vs 36.5% on clay.
- Manukyan's break-point save rate on clay is 66.7% (44/66).

Markets to Avoid

High-risk markets where price or context leaves too little cushion.

Vales is heavily favored by the market, but his clay form is weak and Manukyan's clay experience makes this a trap.
