The read

In a best-of-5 match on grass with two strong servers, the likelihood of multiple tight sets and at least four sets pushes total games over 38.5.

• Hurkacz's last five matches average 33.6 games, but three went to deciding sets or tiebreaks, inflating game counts.
• Paul's last five matches average 27.8 games, but his Wimbledon matches were one-sided; against stronger servers, his matches extend (e.g., 58 games vs Ruud at Roland Garros).
• H2H matches averaged 25.5 games, but all were best-of-3; in Bo5, with both holding serve well (Hurkacz 75% first-serve win, Paul 71%), sets likely go deep.

The read

Hurkacz's serve and grass-court prowess should keep the match close enough to cover a +3.5 game handicap, even in defeat.

• Hurkacz's serve on grass keeps him competitive; he lost only one set in two Wimbledon matches and held serve 90% of the time.
• Paul's recent wins have been dominant, but against top-100 servers on grass, margins are slim (e.g., 7-6, 6-4 vs Kwon).
• In H2H, despite losing three straight, Hurkacz covered +3.5 games in two of those losses (lost by 4 games once, 2 games once).
• Bo5 format allows Hurkacz to stay within 3.5 games even in a 3-1 loss, as sets are likely close.
