Pre-match view

Context last updated 2 Jul 2026, 06:11 · Europe/Bucharest

Nedic's elite clay pedigree and current form make him a strong favorite over Smith, who lacks surface experience and carries a heavier match load.

The best betting angle is Nedic to win 2-0, as his straight-set record on clay is outstanding and Smith's serve is blunted on this surface.

Context

Nedic's career clay record is 171-13, compared to Smith's 5-5.
- This week Nedic beat No. 4 seed Harold Mayot 6-2, 6-0 on clay.
- Smith's 2026 clay wins came against lower-ranked opponents, and he lost to No. 157 Echargui on clay in June.
Smith beat Ghetu 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-4 and Squire 7-6(5), 6-2, logging over 3 hours on court.
- Nedic beat Mayot 6-2, 6-0 in 57 minutes and Roncadelli 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, with the three-setter still shorter than Smith's opener.
- Smith's serve and movement may fade if this match extends, given his heavier load.
Nedic's last 10 completed matches: 9 wins, 1 loss, with 8 straight-set victories.
- He has a 50.2% break-point conversion rate and an 89% first-set win conversion rate.
- His only recent loss was a tight 7-6, 7-5 to Balshaw, showing he is hard to beat even when pushed.

If Nedic wins the first set, his momentum and Smith's potential fatigue from a heavy workload could lead to a quick second set, but it's not a strong trend.
- Nedic's second-set scores in recent wins: 6-4, 6-0, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2, averaging 7.6 games.
- Smith has lost second sets 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 in recent matches, indicating vulnerability.
- Nedic's break-point conversion rate should allow him to close out the set efficiently if he leads.
