The read

Jodar's superior recent form, H2H win, and better grass acclimatization give him a clear edge, though Carreno-Busta's experience keeps it from being a high-confidence call.

• Jodar has a 1-0 H2H edge, winning from two sets down at Roland Garros 2026, showing mental resilience and ability to adjust mid-match.
• Jodar's recent form: 4-1 in last 5 matches, including a straight-set Wimbledon opener vs Gill (6-3 6-3 7-5) and wins over top-50 opponents Michelsen, Duckworth, and Kovacevic.
• Carreno-Busta's grass record is sparse: only 7 career grass wins vs Jodar's 1-0 this season, and his Wimbledon win came via Shapovalov retirement; his serve/return stats on grass are unproven.
• Jodar's first-set win conversion rate is 95%, and he has a 74% deciding-set win rate, indicating strong front-running and clutch play in Bo5.

The read

Carreno-Busta's experience and return ability should keep the match close enough to cover a 5.5-game handicap.

• In their H2H, Carreno-Busta lost by 9 games (26-17), but that was on clay where Jodar is stronger; on grass, the gap should narrow.
• Carreno-Busta's recent losses have been competitive: vs Jodar (9-game margin), vs Davidovich Fokina (6-game margin), vs Tabilo (9-game margin), but he has covered +5.5 in 3 of his last 5 losses.
• Jodar's wins often come with tight sets: his last 5 wins had margins of 8, 4, 8, 8, 13 games, but the 13-game win was vs a much lower-ranked opponent.

The read

Neither player relies on aces, and their H2H showed low ace counts, making under 21.5 likely even in a long match.

• Jodar's ace rate is 5.4% (career), and Carreno-Busta's is 5.0%, both below average for grass.
• In their H2H, both players hit only 3 aces each in a 5-set match.

The read

A long match with two players who have average double fault rates should push the total over 7.5, though it's a low-confidence call.

• Jodar's double fault rate is 2.8% (career), Carreno-Busta's is 2.4%, but in their H2H they combined for 6 double faults in 5 sets.
• In Bo5 matches, double faults tend to accumulate; Jodar's last 5-set match (vs Michelsen) likely had multiple double faults.
• Grass can lead to more double faults due to lower bounce and aggressive second serves, but both players have moderate rates.
